Valdez number was fed to me, but 112 days of extra depreciation got me a matched number. Weirdness from his signing bonus deferred means it isn't just full year depreciation in the NPV calculation. No idea where 112 comes from, just that it makes the math work.

It has been brought to my attention the media is incorrectly reporting the Tigers are giving up their Competitive Balance B pick for Valdez. That pick is protected from forfeiture. As of now, the draft pick cost in their third rounder. Would change if they acquire a Comp Bal pick in a trade.

I (gasp) discovered an error on Baseball Reference that has propagated to other places. I have contacted them with links from the NYT at the time. They have Joe McDonald listed as the Tigers GM in 92. It was Jerry Walker, who was hired after the 91 season. McDonald was the interim in 91.

Dedicated QB coach is NOT relatively new. Usually the OC coaches a position group, and a lot of times that is the QB, but dedicated QB coaches go back to at least the 80's. I have all of Purdue's staffs in a spreadsheet, and they had dedicated qb coaches most of the 80s and under Tiller.
