I always thought “Don’t care what other people think.“ felt too carte-blanche about self-expression and somewhat insensitive to the vulnerability self-expression necessitates. Today I realized it’s more about accepting that the average person has a -5 modifier on their insight checks.

To this point, a big struggle for any adaptation following this approach is OP arcs aren't linearly paced, they're exponential AND the slower parts are still significant. I'm rooting for this project, but it will be hard to maintain narrative efficiency without diminishing major payoffs.

This take is so cold. Casting is not meritocratic. It’s talent + fit + diplomacy. Moreover, this is not about casting black female leads, this is about producing scripts featuring black female protagonists. It’s like criticizing someone advocating for railways being discriminatory to cars.
