It is not "ICE agents" who are being doxxed. The correct term is "criminals whose defence of 'only following orders' will not save them".

There is no "just a political disagreement". Either you're "woke" or you're a cunt. There is no in-between.

The US is not safe for anyone. Not even professional white western males. We are at the last line of Niemöller's poem already. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025... (No, of course those characteristics shouldn't make us any more privileged and any less at risk than others. But historically they have)

I mostly stopped caring about the quality of stuff I don't have source code for some time in the last millennium. It's just fundamentally unfixable.

I don't know if it's greediness or just rampant incompetence. They just seem to have no engineering discipline at all. And no shame.

Apparently it's not normal to have an Intel NIC with AMD CPU, an AMD GPU with an Intel CPU, an Intel IOMMU with an AMD CPU. Or some such nonsense.

David Woodhouse @dwmw2.bsky.social · 10/01/2025
They just don't care. I'd be ashamed to be part of their engineering team. Windows guests happily initialise an Intel IOMMU and then feed it MSI messages constructed for an AMD IOMMU, and they claim it's not a bug, and ask for "business justification" for fixing it.

A few years ago I was in New Zealand and got 4am phone calls from MBNA on two *consecutive* nights asking if I wanted to do a balance transfer. Closed that card the moment I got home.

People who phone my mobile unsolicited will generally be greeted with the questions, "Where am I? What time is it for me right now?". And when they don't know, I'll demand to know what was so urgent that they had to risk waking me at 3am instead of just sending email like a normal person.

It’s all in the telling.
Dear Santa:
When I was a child, my father cheated on my Mom. Later, my parents divorced.
Soon after, my mother died in a car accident My brother and I could only live in my grandma's old house.
Grandma's sister was an alcoholic. The whole family lived on my grandma's savings. Grandma recently died.
My Uncle Andy is barely keeping himself out of jail from day to day.
My brother left home and won't talk to us any more.
Dad, now 74, had to go out to work to support the family and eventually he is going to want me to do the same thing.
Yours sincerely.

Yair Lapid, of the centrist Yesh Atid party and leader of Israel’s opposition, described the warrants as a ‘reward for terrorism’. I have to agree with him, Israel commit terrorist war crimes, and it got the reward, arrest warrants.

True, they should have had an exemption like this from the start.

David Woodhouse @dwmw2.bsky.social · 21/11/2024
This part seems eminently sensible. Most people know to give assets to their family when they expect to live for another 7 years. If these rules are changing, it seems reasonable to grant an exemption to those who are statistically likely to have missed that chance.

It would have been much better to call it off for now and try again with an actual plan, in a few years time. And there was certainly no "democratic" reason not to do just that. 12/12

David Woodhouse @dwmw2.bsky.social · 21/11/2024
Even if it made sense to leave the EU, it didn't need to happen then, after the government had spent three years incompetently frittering away the negotiating time without a plan, even coming up with ideas like the backstop, agreeing to them, then going back on their word. 11/12
110
David Woodhouse @dwmw2.bsky.social · 21/11/2024
Remember, we are a sovereign nation and we could have left the EU at any time we wanted to. The Scots waited a little bit longer, came back with a better plan that actually had enough public support, and got their devolution. 10/12

David Woodhouse @dwmw2.bsky.social · 21/11/2024
By 2019 the result of the referendum HAD been respected, despite the fact that they didn't need to. We had the right to choose what to do next; whether to proceed. There is no sense in claiming that the 2016 result binds MPs' choices three years later; it didn't even bind them at the time. 9/12
120
David Woodhouse @dwmw2.bsky.social · 21/11/2024
But you don't send a negotiator in with a blank piece of paper, signed and postdated three years. It is absolutely right and proper that they come back to us with what they've negotiated, for us to approve (or reject) it. 8/12
120
David Woodhouse @dwmw2.bsky.social · 21/11/2024
And in fact, the result was honoured at the time anyway. MPs didn't have to, but they chose to trigger Article 50 and negotiate our departure from the EU. 7/12
120
David Woodhouse @dwmw2.bsky.social · 21/11/2024
Don't let people lie to you that "democracy is at stake", and that ignoring the result would set a bad precedent. It would be entirely in line with precedent, and also with the letter of the law and the spirit of our representative democracy. 6/12
120
David Woodhouse @dwmw2.bsky.social · 21/11/2024
So when people say the referendum was advisory and MPs weren't bound to implement the result, that isn't just weasel words. If it'd been binding, it would've had extra conditions which it would have failed, like the Scottish 1979 vote. It would have been behind us long ago. 5/12
120
David Woodhouse @dwmw2.bsky.social · 21/11/2024
Well, Parliament explicitly discussed it, and other safety checks on electoral fraud or requiring a ⅔ supermajority. But decided that they didn't need to predict all the pitfalls in advance because MPs themselves were the safeguard — because the referendum was advisory. 4/12
120
David Woodhouse @dwmw2.bsky.social · 21/11/2024
That is the democratic precedent in this country. So, why didn't the 2016 vote have that same threshold? 3/12
120
David Woodhouse @dwmw2.bsky.social · 21/11/2024
Because the turnout was too low. For such a big and irreversible change, which could happen at any time, we needed 40% of the electorate to turn up and vote in favour — not just to stay at home because they're OK with the status quo, and not bother to engage. 2/12
120
David Woodhouse @dwmw2.bsky.social · 21/11/2024
On democracy: Remember that in 1979, Scots voted 51.6% in favour of devolution — but didn't get it (then) and the Scotland Act was repealed. Why? 1/12

I'll grant that a majority vote for a felon whose main campaign promise was to massively *increase* taxes by calling them "tariffs" was a bit unexpected though.

Who would have thought that a so-called society which was *founded* on the basis of objecting to taxation, falls into self-serving anarchy and is the only first-world country without even managing to have universal health care? Quelle surprise?
