"I'm not sure what keeps me there, what keeps any of us there, beyond inertia. We're in the Looney Tunes stage of the end of social, where we've glided well past the edge of the cliff and it's slowing dawning on us that the only way left is down. Fast. What if we just stopped?"

ICE cannot do what it’s doing without local law enforcement. They need their manpower and infrastructure. That means if you want to stop ICE you are going to have to confront police collaboration and police power. I’m sorry but progressive hopes of avoiding this conflict are a recipe for failure.

Social media isn't built to handle an article like this. We're too glib and judgemental and everyone is so intent on getting their dunks off. It's impossible to have a real conversation about something so difficult.

This is the same issue that frustrates me in basketball when arguing with people who still underrate Jalen Brunson. "Sure, he can get it done in the close out games against the top competition in the playoffs, but what about during the low pressure game against the Pelicans in February?"

One of the many reasons you shouldn't base your opinions and moral judgements about the world on electoral strategy is that it leads to people reverse-engineering theories of electoral strategy entirely to backfill justifications for their moral beliefs.

This this THIS RIGHT HERE
The worst case scenario isn’t “AI goes rogue and makes disastrous mistakes,” but a bunch of people at at AI startup over-promising what their systems can do, get handed access to critical systems, write sloppy prompts, code, and configurations, trigger a disaster, then trying to dodge responsibility by screaming about the Singularity and AGI, and flooding technically illiterate regulators with a massive tsunami of technobabble.

I was in my mid-30s when I decided to give the Beatles a try, see if they're as good as people say they are. I randomly got Abbey Road and Let It Be, and listened to Abbey Road first. Loved it. If I had listened to Let It Be first, I would have been slandering the Beatles for the rest of my life.

It's even crazier than that. It's "I can't even tell you what it means, my usage of the term is totally incoherent. It'll mean whatever I want it to mean in the moment. But it absolutely doesn't mean what you've always meant by it "

There is, of course, one exception to Black people's diminished standing, which is when Black people criticize other Black people or otherwise testify in ways that confirm white people's hopes and beliefs.
THIRD RULE
Few blacks avoid diminishment of racial standing, most of their statements about racial condidtions being diluted and their recommendations of other blacks taken with a grain of salt. The ususal exception to this rule is the black person who publicly disparages or criticizes other blacks who are speaking or acting in ways that upset whites. Instantly, such statements are granted 'enhanced standing' even when the speaker has no special expertise or experience in the subject he or she is criticizing.

FOURTH RULE
When a black person or group makes a statement or takes an action that the white community or vocal components thereof deem "outrageous," the latter will actively recruit blacks willing to refute the statement or condemn the action. Blacks who respond to the call to condemnation will receive superstanding status. The blacks who refuse to be recruited will be interpreted as endorsing the statements and action and may suffer political or economic reprisals.

Derrick Bell wrote many years ago that Black people trying to speak to their own experiences routinely have their testimony discounted because it's seen as too biased: special pleading. In public discourse or a court of law, only white people can be objective about race, only men about gender, etc.

Anyway that’s how you wind up in this rhetorical game of whack-a-mole where every concept associated with Black people is transformed into a “politically divisive” term to be avoided- DEI, woke, defund, CRT, intersectionality, identity politics, police and prison abolition, affirmative action etc-

The “aside from the racism” approach, where interlocutors believe they can suss out the bigotry at the heart of someone’s argument to then engage the “good faith” bit is exactly how Rufo and Hanania and keep laundering their work and why reactionary frames are adopted across the political spectrum.

Memoryholing the 2020 uprising into banal ass "woke 1" further shows how unserious the white left that leads this kind of discourse has always been. They want Black Americans to trust them while also declaring Black folk their impediment, priming anti-blackness as a feature of their constituency.

Yes and dismissing those same people as “wacky” while lifting up the police as partners should be seen as a move to reduce the influence and power of people who forced him to hold to his promises.

"Seeing progressive politicians move away from their earlier feelings poses a question about what they’re moving toward. Ossé and AOC did not introduce any “woke 1” legislation or resolutions that they now have to retract. Mamdani actually attempted the opposite: the racial justice working group of DSA, among others, successfully pressured him to reverse his commitment to add almost 600 more officers and $70m to the NYPD, against his campaign promise to maintain the headcount of the force. He was positioning this move while boasting historic lows for crime in the city."

George Floyd was murdered, millions of people concluded that something was fundamentally wrong with American policing, and six years later a prominent figure who once spoke to that anger can casually describe the politics that emerged from it as “Woke 1 was crazy.” That IS anti-blackness to me.

Just canceled my DashPass and sent this email to DoorDash. I encourage you to do the same if you support D.C. home rule. press@doordash.com and ir@doordash.com
Hello,

I’m writing to let you know that I just canceled my DashPass because of DoorDash’s disgraceful campaign against D.C. home rule.

DoorDash is urging Congress to nullify a new D.C. law imposing a 20 percent tax on food-delivery services—not merely by overturning that law, but by prohibiting the District from enacting any new tax without prior congressional approval. That is an extraordinarily sweeping assault on D.C.’s right to govern itself and an odious insult to the District’s residents.

I am especially disgusted by DoorDash’s public claim that it is somehow defending D.C. residents while actively seeking to strip us of our right to govern ourselves through our own democratically elected lawmakers. Please do not pretend that disenfranchising District residents is an act undertaken on our behalf.

I intend to publicize DoorDash’s attack on home rule as widely as possible and urge everyone I know to boycott the company.

Shame on you.
