Duskfall @duskfall.dev · 29/09/2026would you still love me if I was a menu only accessible by long pressing on a post? 🥺 011
Duskfall @duskfall.dev · 28/09/2026When I learned about this a while ago I was so happy I could finally spam the buttons in some project I was working on without zooming in. Very fun stuff. 000
Duskfall @duskfall.dev · 28/09/2026Made some updates to my website today, so I'm feeling pretty good. It felt less good to learn that I only just now resolved an issue I had been meaning to work on since February... Anyway check out my new links page I guess: duskfall.dev/links/duskfall.devLinksLinks to all of my socials. 020
Duskfall @duskfall.dev · 24/09/2026Thought I'd play around colorful accents for my sona, since it was mostly gray before. Could be refined but it seems nice :3 140
Duskfall @duskfall.dev · 23/09/2026I might have to make a blog post or something about the German word "Hausnummer" sometime because it has a surprising amount of figurative meaning. It also has an interesting origin since house numbering was not widespread in Europe until the 18th century. 040
Duskfall @duskfall.dev · 22/09/2026I found out about this today. It seems pretty cool. I really ought to contribute to Wiktionary more. 030
Duskfall @duskfall.dev · 21/09/2026Obsidian is still lovely though! To be honest, new plugins always felt kind of hit or miss, it's just a lot more miss nowadays. Usually they're all doing similar things to other existing plugins so it's usually not too hard to spot. Most plugins you'll need (if any) won't be new anyhow :3 010
Duskfall @duskfall.dev · 21/09/2026duskfall should be a word like nightfall. why? idk, but I'm definitely not biased when I say that 030

Reposted by DuskfallTim Sherratt @wragge.hcommons.social.ap.brid.gy · 16/09/2026So Internet Archive, Open Street Map, and Zenodo all currently getting hammered by fucking AI bots. Core pieces of research infrastructure under threat. And those of us trying to keep resources online for the public become the unpaid servants of the mega-rich AI shysters. 115482
Duskfall @duskfall.dev · 17/09/2026hopefully Obsidian's latest preview version becomes public soon then, because they added exactly this 110
Duskfall @duskfall.dev · 14/09/2026Part of me is very concerned at the idea that paying anything to some app could then be used to subsidize or fund generative AI. I know that I don't really get to choose how my money is spent on a piece of software, but seeing apps announce new AI features knowing I partly subsidized it feels bad. 140

Duskfall @duskfall.dev · 09/09/2026how else would conveyer belts be powered? we all know there's a big factory somewhere that connects to all other conveyer belts and has its workers walk on the belts to get them moving in every factory 030
Duskfall @duskfall.dev · 09/09/2026As far as I know, OpenStreetMap data is freely licensed and independent from government data, though it can be based on government info. 010
Duskfall @duskfall.dev · 09/09/2026I've heard you can email their support team to have AI disabled on your account specifically. Why they haven't made it a setting yet is beyond me, but if you really wanna stick with Notion that seems like your best shot at removing the AI features. 000
Duskfall @duskfall.dev · 06/09/2026I could be wrong but wouldn't this make downloading an image in a specific format on mobile harder 110
Duskfall @duskfall.dev · 05/09/2026Obsidian Web Clipper is available on iOS as a browser extension. I think there's also ways to clip things to Obsidian using a share sheet, but don't quote me on that. 100
Duskfall @duskfall.dev · 04/09/2026From what I can tell, I should be able to include it in the page metadata and it should work fine. I just have no styles or anything for images yet since my blog hasn't used any images. 010
Duskfall @duskfall.dev · 04/09/2026OSM data is contributed from volunteers around the world (kind of like Wikipedia but for maps), so depending on your area there might not be great coverage. 020
Duskfall @duskfall.dev · 04/09/2026OpenStreetMap isn't really an app, it's a database that can be used by other apps to create a map. MapQuest, for example, relies on OpenStreetMap data. OSM does have a map on their website though, if that's something you can use. 210
Duskfall @duskfall.dev · 03/09/2026windows can be over a ton? woah... that's gotta be huge if it's that heavy 000
Duskfall @duskfall.dev · 03/09/2026this should not work at all, so in my unbiased opinion I think it's the best solution 010
Duskfall @duskfall.dev · 03/09/2026shuffle the pixels of frame 17 (or whatever is highest for images less than that many frames) and pick a random pixel from that frame 110
Duskfall @duskfall.dev · 03/09/2026a lot of pages still have default site-wide descriptions I think, but this is a good step forward. also go read my awesome article it's so awesome and cool and OpenStreetMap is too!!!!!!! 030
