Financially I've had to burn through my life savings to cover my legal costs. Your donations have been incredibly helpful and needed but as this case has dragged on, so have the costs. It's not about the charge but the ride.

I'm not going to sugarcoat it, these past four years have been extremely tough. My mental health has suffered. It is incredibly isolating to be facing these charge for so long especially as there is a publication ban while we wait for this trial to actually happen.

But as I mentioned earlier, my criminal case is still ongoing. I face up to ten years in prison for this politically motivated criminal case brought forward by the EPS.
2141
duncankinney.bsky.social @duncankinney.bsky.social · 10/07/2026
Now the EPS must build a policy document and clearly identify who in their organization is responsible for deciding on bans and any appeals.
1130
duncankinney.bsky.social @duncankinney.bsky.social · 10/07/2026
Apparently I was unprofessional and rude however the EPS were unable to offer up any specific instances or offer any evidence to back up this claim. This decision tells the EPS that their ad hoc policies, the ones used to pull my credentials, aren't good enough.
1201
duncankinney.bsky.social @duncankinney.bsky.social · 10/07/2026
Then I was the subject of a politically motivated police investigation and eventually these bogus charges were filed against me. No justification was ever provided for the revocation of my press credentials, that is until now.

I was doing effective, critical journalism of the Edmonton Police, specifically their kid glove handling of the so-called "Freedom Convoy" back in 2022. Then my media credentials were pulled.
1241
duncankinney.bsky.social @duncankinney.bsky.social · 10/07/2026
It's been many years now, so much so that I'm nearly done nursing school and my case still hasn't gone to trial but the arbitrary and capricious revocation of my media credentials by the EPS was the inciting incident of all of this.

I see nothing in the Liberal Party platform that could improve safety for people who use drugs, but plenty to make their lives more difficult & dangerous. Reads to me like doubling down on drug war failures: more cops w/ more powers, harm reduction unmentioned. Alberta model goes federal.
