Great thread, I kicked in what I could to the Rapid Response Fund. Grim fucking day, but I’m in awe of the bravery and resilience of so many people right now.

I didn’t want to include Brotherhood’s concept art as evidence for anything in my critique because I feel like without context, concept art is like a Rorschach test and people are going to see different things in it, but Brotherhood has some really evocative and cool art out there

the tiber island hideout as seen from a distance. under a giant moon, a number of assassins leap from the roof.

ezio overlooking a massive party happening on the streets of rome. lanterns and flags flood the streets like small rivers of light

okay so make sure you have a full quiver of arrows, equip them, attack, then mid-attack animation, enter your portfolio and unequip the arrows. you should get an error message, that's good. now drop whatever stock you're trying to duplicate. we'll be dining in Rosethorn Hall by week's end

If your YT viewing experience gets noticeably worse in May, this might be why--new, "optimized ad opportunities". I place midroll ads manually every 25-30ish minutes, at natural breaks, because if I let YT do it automatically they try to do a midroll every eight minutes. I like money, but blegh.

A screenshot of a YouTube creator update email. The post is referencing a section that is partially highlighted: "By default, adding automatic mid-rolls to existing videos: Starting May 12, 2025, we will add automatic ad slots to existing videos that have manual mid-roll ad slots to increase mid-roll ad opportunities."

So on the way out of the Vatican with Mario in AC: Brotherhood, you'll pass some cardinals in prayer. "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places."

The more I learn about Cesare Borgia the more I think AC: Brotherhood gives us the least interesting interpretation of him. He's constantly described as brilliant, this book describes his lifestyle as "blatantly secular", and then there's this little romp when he was supposed to be a hostage:

A quote from a book covering Cesare Borgia that describes one of his exploits. The quote is as follows: "This would have been humiliation indeed for the proud young Cardinal Borgia, who could not abide even the slightest personal insult. However, it was not to be. According to Alexander VI’s master of ceremonies, Johannes Burchard: “On January 30 news arrived that Cardinal Cesare Borgia had eluded the grasp of the French king and escaped from Velletri disguised as a groom from the royal stables, and that he had traveled so swiftly that he slept that night in Rome.” Next day, he quietly slipped out of the city at first light. To add insult to injury, Borgia had also managed to arrange for half the treasure train of mules to be “stolen;” and the boxes carried by the remaining mules were found to be empty."

Dragonborn is live! Next up is Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, which might be my favorite game of the Ezio trilogy to play, but I think the story kind of collapses in the back half. Should be fun to pick through the pieces though!

workshopping a thesis connecting the absurd ubiquity of wicked ads to the same misunderstanding of the average american that lost democrats the election. give it a folksy title and this video essay does numbers.
