Furious that Chris Nolan would disregard historical accuracy in adapting The Odyssey by making a "movie" with "cameras" instead of memorizing the entire story and then going on a nationwide tour to sing it to us while tripping on ergotized barley

To put it another way: Politicians trying to calibrate their policy planks around what's popular are committing a category error. What's popular is having a bit of charisma and then believing in something so that when you talk you sound like a person who actually means what they're saying.

When a politician walks back a promise in an attempt to appease the right, constituents can count on two things: 1. More concessions are coming. 2. Any pushback is met with a deluge of people explaining how no one should have expected them to do something as unrealistic as exactly what they said.

I recently published an article on an esoteric historical subject. It took me years. AI could not have researched and written it, and even if it could, relying on AI to do these things would have deprived me of the knowledge and joy I gained doing something I love to do and is worthwhile.

Reminder that Klingons say TRANS RIGHTS BRING HONOR TO YOUR HOUSE
DS9 scene: Kor, a Klingon, greets Dax as Curzon. Dax corrects him as the host is now in Jadzia, a Trill female. Cor immediately responds, "Jadzia, my beloved old friend" without missing a beat.

Right: Two tweets from 2019: "This Pride Month, never forget that Klingons had trans rights"; "No hostility, no confusion, no clumsy excuse-filled justification, just a quick self-correction and the exact same amount of love and respect before and after. Cis allies: Be like Kor."

We're all just rats in a massive living global experiment conducted by Big Tech on our bodyminds, and the politicians and people in power who could actually do something about it are trying desperately to appease Big Tech instead
One man, whose now-ex wife believes that she discovered powerful spiritual entities inside of ChatGPT, described connecting with another man who was also losing his wife to a ChatGPT-generated spiritual world. To their horror, the pair quickly realized that their spouses — and marriages — started unraveling in the wake of the April memory update.

“We actually had a phone call… we just talked and realized the commonalities,” the man told us. When he mentioned the date of April memory update, he explained, the other husband “was like, ‘Oh my God, that aligns perfectly.'”

In conversations with Futurism, people who’ve experienced AI spirals have described their experience of the April memory update as nothing short of magical — the AI, they shared, suddenly felt more like a close friend or confidante that really knew them. Many have described feeling deeply seen, in some cases for the first time in their lives. In short, the hyper-personalization that memory offered translated into something powerful: intimacy. And looking back on their experiences, some of those who have recovered from their ChatGPT-linked crises feel as though that intimacy had a “manipulative” effect.

Thin people feeling insulted isn't what's wrong with the BMI. The problem with the BMI is that it's designed around white men's bodies. The problem with the BMI is that it ISN'T A CLINICAL TOOL, it's a statistical one. The problem with the BMI is its use to exclude fat people from health care.

I work with libraries and across the board libraries are having their budgets cut while being asked to be an even greater resource for struggling communities. I would love to see a city, especially NYC, go all in on support rather than cutting already tight budgets. It's such a missed opportunity.
