Sometimes I forget just how amazing this album is and when I hear it again I’m blown away.

"Famous Blue Raincoat" is one of his finest songs, making it, by default, one of the finest songs of the 20th century. The first track, "Avalanche," is among the great, mood-setting openers and used to brilliant effect in Assayas's '94 film "Cold Water.

Highly recommend watching the live version from Zoo TV if you haven't seen it, beginning with the previous song, Bullet the Blue Sky.

What a fun mixtape morning. Was holding out hope that this brilliant rendition, or really ANY cover by St. Vincent, would make #OneVoteWonder playlist. #XPNCountdown. www.youtube.com/watch?v=8pv3...

Are there other songs or music that you think achieves this in other films?

Dan @dtsphilly.bsky.social · 12/12/2025

Agreed! I hate the "can't believe I missed / forgot that one" feeling.

The WXPN 885 cover countdown broadcast is the closest our nation has come to huddling around a radio since “The War of the Worlds” broadcast. #XPNCountdown

Same. I also thought that "That's Alright, Mama" would chart.

Spot on. It was a rare feat for one of the most mind-bending films.

Yes! I love that duet and her whole Unforgettable album. My dad played it constantly when it came out, so it was sort of my introduction to music generally.

This might be my favorite cover of theirs, though I wonder if it fits the #XPNCountdown criteria since it includes a prerecorded "duet." www.youtube.com/watch?v=YLIv...

Buckley's sublime and ghostly take on "Lilac Wine" is yet another example of how he could seemingly live inside someone else's song like few others. #XPNCountdown

Thus far, none of my Next 15 top cover songs have made the #XPNCountdown. Curious to know if others had these on their ballots or top lists: - EMEL - "The Man Who Sold the World" (David Bowie) - Sinead O'Connor - "Nothing Compares 2 U (Prince) - The Stone Poneys - "Different Drum" (Michael Nesbith)

I bet Sinead will definitely crack the top 25.

An interesting gray area and worth the try! Somehwat unfortunately, Judy Collins' brilliant and inspired cover of Joni's "Both Sides Now" likely does not qualify for similar reasons.
