Finally! I built & tested an open-source concept model air purifier that should be good for schools. Lots of air (CADR > 420 CFM), quiet (<45 dBA), uses <9 W, and ‘cause it’s wall-mounted & down-blowing, it moves air in the right direction & takes up no floor space. Always check my ALTs🧵⬇️

Image shows a SketchUp view of the concept model. It uses four 24x24x1” 3M Filtrete 1900 MERV13 filters in an M configuration, above eight down-blowing 140mm Arctic P14PWM fans. (Shows simplified fan bodies, but not blades ‘cause that was easier to model.)

Here's a preview of an open-source concept model for an air purifier that I think would be good for schools. It’s wall-mounted & down-blowing, but requires ceilings over 9'. 426 CFM CADR @12V, but I'm still checking the noise before publishing details. Maybe a couple weeks. See ALT for info.

4 24x24x1 filters, 8 140mm fans (blades not shown). Brown is MDF but could be sheet metal. White, not filters, is styrofoam. Could be surrounded with an attractive perforated shell.

Very light filter assy could be replaced using a pole (details TBD). Rests on fan assy. Held in place with magnets? Power supply and timer on wall below, with only low voltage going up to fan assy.

Thanks so much for posting this! I was the engineer for the payload power supplies on all (7, I think) Lunar Orbiters. It was really thrilling when the pictures came back.
