Yep. It's been the same pattern, again and again, with these bold, audacious claims from the AI labs. Each and every time it proves to be far less significant than the initial press flurry suggests, but the majority of people only ever see the original story.

Sometimes, you got to find protected time and spaces (e.g. while doing the dishes in the kitchen while blasting music at full volume) to cry your guts out without alarming the people around you

¿De dónde viene la idea de que si hay un tercer valor de verdad, debe estar EN MEDIO de las otras dos, en algún sentido sustancial?

“If philosophers are defined as having the "real" as their exclusive field of investigation, what are other disciplines (physics, sociology, etc.) about, and what is specific to the philosophical approach?” (Isabelle Thomas-Fogiel 2021)

Comúnmente, preguntar “¿Quién es o hizo X?” presupone que sabemos que alguien es o hizo X. Pero preguntarnos por quién somos parece ser una excepción interesante, nos dice Guillermo Hurtado

Simon had us read Quine's "On what there is" for this week's metaphysics seminar, and wow, I vcan see why it is a classic even if its main argument is deeply flawed. So here are my comments on a classic of naturalised metaphysics: axelbarcelo.blogspot.com/2026/09/read...

A theory of normativity is therefore the question of how and why we do it, including how else could we have done it and how else could we do it in the future.
000
Axel Arturo Barceló Aspeitia @drxl.bsky.social · 11/09/2026
For the social constructivist, normativity is an immanent feature of human practices, it is the fact that we correct people, sanction some behaviors and penalize others, etc.

Estrada’s nihilist project is an eminently emancipatory logic because it aims at showing that it is possible that nothing is logically true and therefore transformation can be more radical than traditionally thought

The striking difference between Hegel’s Logic and the traditional logic has often been emphasized in the statement that Hegel replaced the formal by a material logic. Marcuse 1940

The basic insight behind Feminist Logicians is that not all injustices are based on falsities – and, for the more radical, the prevailing notion of truth –, but on invalidities – and, for the more radical, the prevailing notion of validity.

Tolerance is sometimes abused as an excuse for silencing.

Axel Arturo Barceló Aspeitia @drxl.bsky.social · 11/09/2026
For Marcuse, as many constructivists, realism is inherently conservative, since it stresses the value of conforming to the world as it already is, and does not consider as fundamental the value of transforming the world or the world as it can become.
000
Axel Arturo Barceló Aspeitia @drxl.bsky.social · 11/09/2026
Marcuse’s criticisms to formal logic is based on a more basic criticism to the traditional realist metaphysics it is based on.

“…eugenic thinking and social Darwinism were [not] first popularized by the Third Reich and Nazis… Indeed, the late nineteenth-century and early twentieth-century eugenics of England, France, and the United States ... offered templates for the German Third Reich…” (Tremain 2026)

I think you are completely right. This is not exclusive to formal logic. As a matter of fact, a couple of hours later, a mother speakers at this workshop just plainly asserted that part of what logic is about is answering questions of the form "What does this mean?"

Axel Arturo Barceló Aspeitia @drxl.bsky.social · 08/09/2026
However, our intuitions are not well suited for this job. They are too messy and mushy. Our intuitions do not use logical or, in general, theoretical language. We may have a positive intuitive reaction towards a certain assertion, it is not innocuous to say that the assertion is intuitively true.

Axel Arturo Barceló Aspeitia @drxl.bsky.social · 08/09/2026
In philosophy of logic, it has become common to find arguments based on one logic outperforming another in accounting for the data, i.e., capturing and systematizing our pre-theoretical intuitions and practices regarding what follows from what, what is consistent with what, etc.

Some will derive from its content. For example, a word may be rarely used because the conditions of its application rarely obtain in its context of use. Validity may be one such property. For Platonists and at least some psychologists, it is.

To say that an entity is linguistic is to say something about it—perhaps even something essential about it—but it is not to say that it is only a linguistic entity. Linguistic entities have properties that are not purely linguistic. Some of these will be extrinsic, such as their social history.

Axel Arturo Barceló Aspeitia @drxl.bsky.social · 08/09/2026
It does not follow, of course, from the fact that arguments are linguistic entities that our best theory of their logical validity must be a linguistic theory, or even sensitive to linguistic information. This is because of the nature of abstraction.

Axel Arturo Barceló Aspeitia @drxl.bsky.social · 08/09/2026
That arguments are linguistic entities it does not follow, of course, that our best theory of the validity of arguments has to be a linguistic theory or even sensible to linguistic information.

The traditional tiered analysis of arguments begins with the necessary conditions for something to count as an argument, then adds further requirements for logical validity, and may impose still further conditions for soundness or for dialectical and rhetorical aims.

Es claro que en la lógica formal no hay sujetos, ni individuales ni sociales, nada sobre su psicología, sus intereses, etc. Pero ¿se debe esto a que hemos abstraído estos aspectos del fenómeno lógico o porque le son externos?
