What is the IceCube neutrino observatory? Neutrinos are elusive particles that rarely interact, but can create flashes of light when they do. Most neutrino detectors are giant water tanks surrounded by light detectors. IceCube is kilometer-long strings of detectors embedded in the Antarctic ice.

When AI models go and hack another company’s computers, it is because appropriate safety measures weren’t put in place during testing – testing that designed to assess how well those AI models could hack into computers. We are simply seeing the failings of the companies to erect adequate safeguards

New Scientist being realistic about AI AI going rogue “... gets pushed again and again. We get these waves of hysteria,” says Aitken. If anything has gone rogue, she says, it isn’t AI models, it’s the humans developing them
Mhairi Aitken, formerly of the Alan Turing Institute and now co-founder at non-profit company Our AI Collective, warns against accepting predictions based on the reputation of those making them. Instead, we should look to facts – and the facts don’t suggest that AI has broken free from human control or that it is on the cusp of doing so.

“That’s a narrative that gets pushed again and again. We get these waves of hysteria,” says Aitken. If anything has gone rogue, she says, it isn’t AI models, it’s the humans developing them

Spot the difference
Side-by-side comparison of three social media posts announcing the death of former Republican House Speaker Dennis Hastert at age 84. On the left, Fox News posts, “BREAKING: Dennis Hastert, longest-serving Republican House speaker, dead at 84,” above a photo of Hastert raising his hand at a microphone. In the center, CBS News posts, “Former Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert, who represented Illinois for two decades in Congress and was later jailed for violating banking laws, has died,” above a photo of Hastert walking through the U.S. Capitol. On the right, MeidasTouch posts, “Dennis Hastert, the longest-serving Republican Speaker in history, has died at 84. Hastert admitted in federal court to sexually abusing boys he coached as a high school wrestling coach. A federal judge called him a ‘serial child molester.’ He was a registered sex offender.” The MeidasTouch post includes an image of Hastert speaking from the House floor with a C-SPAN chyron identifying him as Speaker of the House.

Jacob Geller | Sexual Assault or Sexual Violence | Definite suspension for one semesterMany of you have seen the results of my college Title IX investigation. I can confirm that the findings are true. The records were recently shared without the permission of the victim and, without knowledge of their wishes, I do not want to provide any more potentially identifying details. She and I spoke about it the day after and agreed — I had assaulted her. She later reported this to the university’s Title IX office, I cooperated with the investigation, and I was given the (very mild, I concur) sentence of a semester suspension.

Suffice to say, it is the greatest regret of my life. I traumatized a brilliant person who trusted me, hurt them in a way I can never undo.

For more than a decade now, I have attempted to reckon, grow, and recover from the version of myself who did this. I think about it every day. I’ve previously shared this history with many of the people close to me, including early in my relationship with my now-wife, and I’m deeply sorry that this has now hurt so many of you. My continued drive to make myself and the world better is closely tied with the pain I’ve caused.

And they are being very judgy about what counts as the UK's largest religions... Jedi ≠ no religion
can you identify as Jedi in the uk census?

Yes, you can write "Jedi" as your religion on a UK census write-in option, but the Office for National Statistics now codes it under "no religion".
History of the Jedi Census
• 2001 Census: Around 390,000 people (0.7% of the population) wrote down Jedi, making it the fourth-largest reported religion in the UK.
• 2011 Census: The number dropped to 176,632 respondents, ranking it the seventh-largest religion.
• 2021 Census: The Office for National Statistics remapped write-ins like "Jedi Knight" directly into the "no religion" category, reducing the recorded count to just 1,600 mentions.
