Good news from @who.int ahead of the weekend: people are living longer. Global life expectancy reached 73.3 years in 2023, almost fully recovering the years lost during COVID-19 ⬇️ Now we must make sure people don’t just live longer, but live those extra years in good health. #HealthForAll

Is the world more ready than it was before COVID-19? Yes and no. But if leaders fulfil the commitments they made at the #UNGA High-Level meeting, they will make it a yes. #UNGA

That’s a wrap on #UNGA. Different countries. Different priorities. Different perspectives. But health is one thing that connects us all. Preparedness for future health threats is a shared responsibility.

Pandemic prevention, preparedness and response is not just an aspiration. It is a global public good. My one ask to world leaders at the #UNGA High-Level Meeting: get the Pathogen Access and Benefit Sharing annex to the Pandemic Agreement done. As soon as possible.

We welcome today’s Call to Action on Humanitarian access and Health, and thank 🇬🇧, 🇶🇦 and 🇯🇴 for keeping Gaza’s health needs high on the #UNGA agenda. The best medicine is peace. Until then, we must do everything possible to save lives, alleviate suffering and restore access to health care.

@who.int’s call is clear: rapid, sustained and unhindered humanitarian access. Medical supplies must get in, health facilities must be restored, referral pathways reopened, and medical evacuations expanded.

If it isn’t safe, it isn’t care. For people living with heart disease, cancer, diabetes or chronic respiratory disease, care is lifelong. A delayed diagnosis, wrong medicine, unsafe procedure or poor communication can cost lives. Everyone deserves safe care, for life. #WorldPatientSafetyDay
