Here's today's column on the astonishing, ongoing mistreatment of people with #ME/CFS. Please spread it far and wide: the only thing which can break the media's wall of indifference is seeing an article about the issue go viral. Thank you. 1/2 www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

June is Pride Month and a reminder that workplace health and inclusion are inseparable. Nearly 40% of LGBTQ+ employees hide their identity at work (Stonewall). But a reminder too that inclusion isn’t a one-month initiative, it’s a year-round health strategy. 🏳️‍🌈
A tablet device displaying a screen from HercuWise’s Population Health in the Workplace digital course, lesson on LGBTQ+ employees. The screen features a quote from Stonewall Charity (2018): “Despite progress, many LGBTQIA+ individuals still face higher levels of stress, discrimination, and barriers to healthcare access compared to their non-LGBTQIA+ colleagues.” Below, a section headed “How do LGBTQIA+ individuals feel in the workplace?” references Deloitte research on UK workplace inclusion. A further section titled “LGBTQIA+ Inclusive Scenarios” is visible at the bottom of the screen.

1 in 4 people in the UK live with 2+ long-term health conditions. Yet many workplaces aren’t designed to accommodate this. Flexible, supportive workplaces improve wellbeing, retention, and productivity & small changes can make a big difference. Our physical health course covers this topic & more.

Most workplace health strategies are reactive. But by the time stress-related absence and MSK issues appear, costs are already rising. Prevention protects both employee health and organisational performance, and research consistently shows early intervention outperforms reactive approaches.
Infographic showing text saying: prevention today. Stronger workplace tomorrow. Why prevention in the workplace delivers better outcomes for people and business. Infographic listing the benefits of prevention in the workplace: reduced long-term absenteeism and disruption, improved energy and cognitive performance, lower burden on management and HR, more stable resilient teams overtime.Infographic showing weighing scales with reactive versus preventive workplace strategies. Reactive skills are weighed down with: higher costs, more disruption and lower performance. Preventive weighing scales are lighter with: stronger performance and sustainable impact.

The latest ONS population projections show that Britain is at a demographic turning point⤵️
Charlie McCurdy, Senior Economist at RF said:

The latest ONS population projections show that Britain is at a demographic turning point. Deaths are expected to outnumber births in 2026 and will do so every year for the rest of the decade and beyond.
Migration will account for all future population growth in the UK, but migration levels are falling too. This slower population growth will also reduce the size of the workforce and consequently lower tax receipts, adding up to £3 billion a year to borrowing by 2030.

Scientific methods come with inaccuracies, medical blood tests included - doesn’t mean we shouldn’t use them as indicators of health alongside other measures e.g. for diabetes, coeliac disease, cancer screening etc, until something better comes along.

Misreporting (over and under) has been widely recognised as a problem in nutrition science for decades. Unfortunately alternatives (DLW, biomarkers) are expensive and come with other issues. Self-reported data can be valuable (dietary patterns) & used alongside other much needed validated methods.
