In genuine praise of the Modern Services Framework and the British Geriatrics Society
Having seen the main basics of the Modern Services Framework, I see why the British Geriatrics Society (BGS) have presented these as ‘asks’.

I despise the medicalisation of the care of older people, reinforced by selfish corporate lobbying by non-specialists.

The Modern Services Framework for frailty and dementia has a substantial section on unpaid carers, including crisis management and building up their support mechanisms. Unsurprisingly, the British Geriatrics Society couldn't give a flying fig about them. www.bgs.org.uk/key-asks-fro...

I have real concerns about what kind of initiative the Modern Services Framework for frailty and dementia is, and, accordingly, who exactly will benefit. Here's a Substack piece of mine on it. shibley.substack.com/p/the-modern...

The modern services framework in frailty and dementia will need to engage with what a ‘neighbourhood’ is

Independence does not need to be valorised above interdependence or dependence, and autonomy can be relational as well as individualistic. Disability activists please note.

A 15-minute homecare visit makes sense on face value. Care providers can pack in as many ‘visits’ as possible, offering no ‘travelling time’. Paid carers can be so stressed …

Better support for unpaid carers for frailty and dementia should be understood as an intervention in the conditions of caring, not simply an intervention on carers.

The report by British Future has found that people across ethnic groups believe racial equality is worsening in Britain. One in six people are from minority ethnic backgrounds. Continue reading...

I'm going through hundreds of papers, to get an understanding of what a strategy should look like for frailty and dementia. But I must say that the geriatrics policy papers are a dire 'word salad', with terms doing a lot of heavy lifting, such as "proactive", "attuned", etc.
