...Federal marshals subsequently orchestrated the transfer of all 287 bars to local police. In a secret operation, officers guarded the 282 bars before returning them to the CIA. The agency promises that the 271 gold bars stolen by Mr Rush will be sold and the profits used to reimburse US taxpayers.
When F.B.I. agents first searched his house, they said they found 303 gold bars. In court on Tuesday, prosecutors said that the correct number was 298 gold bars, and that they had cost the government more than $46 million to obtain.

So well-deserved. I've been saying Deisseroth and others should win the Nobel for optogenetics since I learned about it in grad school. It seemed like a powerful, field-transforming technique then, and its usefulness has only expanded. Glad to see Nagel and Hagerman recognized as well.

Because we have a community, we can each do things that fit our risk tolerance and our values. We also can challenge one another. We have had disagreements and internal conversations about best strategies. We learned so much from each other. I am just so grateful that we have this community.

This is an entirely new phenomenon because before the vaccine, most women who survived measles were immune because they had it when they were young. But now, idiots who refuse to get vaccinated are giving birth to babies with measles. Two babies have died. www.nbcnews.com/health/healt...

America had wiped out measles. Now babies are infected at birth.
Congenital measles has rarely been seen in the U.S. That’s changing as vaccination declines and more pregnant women become infected.

The third category of alleged "excesses" are simply real issues the right disagrees with. However you feel about the slogan "defund the police," shifting police resources to social spending isn't particularly radical — and the need for police reform is still urgent. Also, it didn't happen!

The second is the widespread "cancellation" of public and private figures who broke from left-wing orthodoxy. This one is mostly fake. Most "cancellations" were simply criticism of celebrities and ordinary market forces at work. There were some dumb firings during Woke 1 but they're rare.

There's a few categories of "excesses" to reckon with. The first — and most numerous — were annoying-but-harmless updates to language and norms. The HR person at work telling you to stop saying 'brown bag' or 'flip chart' may be cringe in hindsight but don't really matter that much.
