Why would I use AI to research and write, because it is in the process of doing this that I become myself, my whole self.

That moment when you realise that you have to cut down 50000 words in your book draft but also add another section because the story would not make sense without it

"The idea that there is some sort of ‘feminine’ way of thinking and working has hindered efforts to tackle gender inequalities. It pigeonholes women, putting them into new boxes rather than disrupting the ones in which they have long been held captive."

Called home while away for work and our recently turned 9 year olds girls were having a lengthy chat about periods with their dad. Just keeping it normalised.

LAUNCH DAY! THE INTERMEDIARIES weaves together 3 stories: A history of science and the discovery of hormones, a #history of political machinations + how Nazi weaponized hate and fear, and best of all, a history of #trans woman Dora Richter and others like her who lived lives of joy and resistance.

I think authors and academics should have a note in their papers and books if they have used AI to read, research, summarise or write.

In my view: Women often write around caring work & pushed out of jobs due to motherhood penalty More women work in publishing as paid less than male-dominated stem & tech Women (might) publish more but men get higher advance & recognition (in N/F at least) I think white male writers are doing ok

The 8 year old becoming aware of the patriarchy everyday. Comes into my office very frustrated & frankly outraged: ‘Why is the lion the king of the jungle? It does not live in the jungle and most important the girls do EVERYTHING! It should be the queen of the savannah, Mummy! ‘

In writing essays students learn to process information, tell a story, formulate an opinion, communicate their ideas- all very imp life skills, not just for academic writing. Writing essays is learning how to think. This is what I teach my students. AI cannot do this for them. This is such bullshit

I think a lot of how women writers are supposed to look and dress a certain way, how hotness is desirable, how attractiveness is expected even when it has nothing to do with their writing. Not an expectation from male writers. I’ve been thinking of this a lot esp as I grow older. And this story wow

This seems so extraordinary. But if we look at history of these institutions that I’ve spent doing for the last year or so this in fact does not seem so extraordinary. You would think for all the talk abt progress and inclusivity and human rights things would change in 2025 but in fact they haven’t

Went to a stem outreach day with 8-year olds enthusiastic abt chemistry. It was clear the academics had never given a talk to kids without patronising them or using tons of jargon. Why don’t all academics have training in making scientific concepts accessible? We need new generation of scientists.

Meta stealing 30 of my academic papers and books for AI training is so upsetting. We have not given them access to our intellectual property, they have not asked for permission or offered compensation. This is theft.

Everyone should watch Adolescence on netflix. It is so important for all parents & educators. It is a terrifying culture our children are growing up in with social media & people like Tate & we have to be hyper aware & talk to them, understand them with empathy even if it makes us uncomfortable.

I don’t feel like *celebrating* Women’s Day. Make every day women’s Day where ALL women are given equal rights, agency,, choices, safety, respect, recognition. Do not tick boxes on one day. Do not use it to sell things. Do not pretend to be an ally but stay silent. Do it all EVERY SINGLE DAY.
