The UN has announced that we will start running out of clean water (drinking, cooking, showering, dishes, laundry, etc.) in the next few years.

Water won't always be free. When clean water becomes scarce, it will be privatized, priced, and controlled. You will pay for it. And those who can't pay won't survive.

Data centers don’t actually need water. Data centers need cooling system and they are using water because it’s the most cheapest way to do it. Water should be for people before profits.

The world must remember that we live in a society, not an economy.

Orly Lavee's mischaracterisation of Sunday's Sydney Marathon protest as displaying "messages of hate" leaves out one rather inconvenient fact: Jews helped organise it ("Messages of hate strike wrong note at Sydney Marathon", September 2). I am Jewish and a member of Jews Against the Occupation'48, one of the groups involved. Jews were at the protest, two Jews spoke, and it was Jewish researchers who helped uncover the backgrounds of IDF soldiers and others with military links running in the marathon - the story that prompted the protest. So, who exactly were we supposedly hating? The chants targeted the IDF, not Jews. Opposition to the Israeli military is not hatred of Jews. Lavee's description also bears little resemblance to the protest I experienced. It was incredibly uplifting. Runner after runner responded with raised fists, peace signs and high-fives. Some carried Palestinian flags. The support was overwhelming. Jewish Australians who oppose Israel's actions exist but are too often ignored or abused for speaking out. Perhaps it's time we stopped being erased from the definition of "the Jewish community" simply because what we say and experience doesn't fit the prevailing narrative. Comedian Bassem Youssef has postponed his Australian tour after Home Affairs requested FBI clearance and a criminal record from Egypt as part of his visa application. Youssef, who is an open critic of Israel, fled Egypt 12 years ago, and with his identity documents now lapsed, could not get the checks processed in time. It comes two months after the Executive Council of Australian Jewry told the SMH it had "made representations" to convince Home Affairs to deny Youssef's visa.

Following the Israeli military's announcement that it is opening a criminal investigation into the killing of Hind Rajab, many journalists have reached out to me.
I do not wish to give interviews, but I want to say this.
This announcement is a smokescreen.
For more than two years, the evidence has been there:
independent investigations, satellite imagery, ballistic analysis.
And there was the most devastating evidence of all:
Hind's own voice, describing the Israeli tanks circling around her.
What more did we need?

Did we really have to wait for the accused to decide to investigate itself (yes, itself!) before these facts could finally be taken seriously?
Look at the cases the Israeli military is choosing to speak about today: they are precisely the ones that international public opinion has made impossible to ignore.
And what about all the others? Those whose names we will never know because their deaths never broke through the wall of international indifference?
Meanwhile, the Israeli military continues to kill Palestinians in Gaza, while the occupation intensifies in the West Bank.
What is needed now is not a public relations operation.
What is needed is justice (delivered by an independent authority) for Hind and for all the victims of the genocide in Gaza.

Israel's ambassador to Australia has defended the Israeli investigation that cleared its military of any criminal wrongdoing over an attack in Gaza that killed seven aid workers, including Australian Zomi Frankcom, after Foreign Minister Penny Wong summoned him to Parliament House for a rebuke. Greens Senator Mehreen Faruqi said she was "apalled" by the ambassador's comments, arguing he should have been expelled from the country.

"There is no doubt that this is a war crime," she said as she called for the International Criminal Court to investigate Frankcom's killing.

While the NSW government this year established the Armed Response Command-consisting of a quick-reaction force of 250 police with long-arm firearms capabilities - concerns remain in the community over whether it will proactively guard events. Mr Morton said he was confident the command would be able to provide appropriate security.

"I credit the Premier for his foresight in setting up the ARC, that will be highly trained and equipped to handle any situation that may arise," he said. "They, along with our dedicated first responders, should have the confidence of the community to do the job in all circumstances."

NSW Police deputy commissioner David Hudson has told the antisemitism royal commission that allowing armed CSG guards to patrol public events would create a "disconnect" between community groups. "I think isolating a particular group for additional powers within our community is problematic," he said. "It can cause friction between groups if one particular element of society is afforded privileges that others aren't."

Armed CSG members already provide security at Jewish schools, synagogues and privately owned properties, but aren't permitted to be armed at community events.

Mr Minns on Wednesday said he had made no decision on a trial but said he was supportive of the move. "I'm really concerned that, as it relates to the Jewish community, they won't participate in Hanukkah events because of the real fear that this may happen again, "he told ABC Sydney.

"Given Jewish community groups and security groups are already armed ... for certain select events where there is a high risk of a potential mass shooting event, I think it needs to be trialled."

Asked if he would be open to concerned Muslim groups asking for similar armed guards in the community, Mr Minns said he was "not making a carte blanche decision about this".

A Sydney library in the same council area as Bondi beach has removed a book critical of Israel called How to Sell a Genocide, following a complaint reportedly from a survivor of the Bondi beach terror attack.

How to Sell a Genocide critiques what it claims is the US media’s “complicity in the destruction of Gaza”. The decision to remove the book was criticised by its author, Adam Johnson, who said calling Israel’s actions in Gaza a genocide was not “a fringe or radical position”.
