Also big thanks to @writingthings.bsky.social and @grumplefish.bsky.social for their reporting and analysis. I regularly wonder, “wait my property taxes have doubled in the last 5-6 years, why is Durham unable to afford basic services?” No surprise, corporations refuse to pay their fair share!

There are a lot of wasteful uses of energy and fossil fuels, but using a gas powered leaf blower to clear THE STREET in front of your house might be the worst.

More than one truly awful thing in this bill. In addition to CWIP, the bill also shifts a bunch of costs from industrial customers to residential folks through changing how fuel and purchased power are allocated. Guess who was in the room when this leg was written? (Hint: industrial groups)

Good morning with good news: US fossil fuel generated electricity fell to its record low share in April, down to 49.26%! FF electricity has been below the 50% milestone in both March & April! That is historic, as monthly FF electricity had never been below 50% since at least 1940s. #energysky

Big tech must stop passing the cost of its spiking energy needs onto the public
We need new policies that ensure the cost of new data centers is carried by the tech companies that profit from them, not by regular energy consumers such as family households and small businesses.

Okay, this is useful for data center comparisons: When we're talking about a 500 MW data center, we're talking about ~3.7 million MWh, or enough to serve 350,000 households. That's like half of Oklahoma Gas and Electric's residential customers. 1 uber data center = half OG&E households

Pretty strong disagree with this. $174k with great health care, a pension (a pension!) and a ton of time off is plenty. The problem is the money it takes to run, not the salary.

Can they build the data centers on platforms out in the ocean? High capacity wind (and add some batteries), easy access to water for cooling, no land use issues and no noise concerns. Everybody wins! 😁
