Haven't done an animation in a while. Lucky for me @amsikking.bsky.social came up with a "Dual-Grind" snouty light sheet objective - amsikking.github.io/idv-snouty_l.... I happily present a look into their manufacture.

Yeah, I'm not inclined to go silent. The sound is so satisfying! I think my first upgrade is going to be a second one for my work PC - although I'll see how my officemates feel about that.

Unexpected consequence however. My wife has had to start wearing headphones on days when we're sharing the home office....

Had a sleep study done recently and just got the results back. There's nothing wrong with me. I just snore, and I guess any fatigue I have is just the natural result of living in the modern world.

My preferred coffee roaster has a chatbot on its site so I decided to ask it about grind size of a blend I bought. It didn't know the answer but an hour or so later I got an email from a human answering me. I feel bad, I was only asking becuase I don't care about wasting a robot's time!

We've had a house full of teenagers for our eldest's birthday for the majority of Saturday afternoon. We've never earned a martini harder.

Oh I should have done this years ago. Even my kids love it - although that's probably the 15 different backlighting modes (the first thing I did was turn it off, the first thing they did was demand I show them how to turn it back on).
E-YOOSO z99 mechanical keyboard with RGB backlights. It's very pretty.

E-YOOSO 99keys is on its way. I have more than one computer so even if I've made a mistake here I can make amends on the next one 😀

Lol your name came up. Dipping my toe with a relatively cheap model that has two things a kind of need: wireless and numeric keypad. But I know it's a rabbit hole so will see where it leads.

Made myself a pour-over coffee this morning to take to work. Put it in the thermos my son often uses for his school lunches. Now I'm a fan of interesting coffee but I don't think the "notes of butter chicken" was entierly the intention of the roaster.

Gotta watch out for crocs up here.
A sign warning to beware it crocodiles at palm cove beach. Behind the sign is a pair of crocs (the shoes). It's a hilarious joke, regardless of what my wife and children may think.

Sure I could ask AI to indentify this bird, but my kids have decided it's called the "cheese face bird" and who am I to disagree?

Week 1 of going (back) to the driving range: "Oh I vaguely remember this" Week 2: "Oh it's starting to come back" Week 3: "Hey, I'm getting pretty good" Week 4: "Which end of golf stick for holding and which end for hitting?"

Why is it always on the days where I have so much stuff to do that the network goes down? This will make next week significantly more stressful than I would like before I go on holiday.

I like that my local driving range has ball tracking, I particularly enjoy the "ego boost" button (or "convert" as they call it which translates to "yes you hit 170, but if you were using quality golf balls it would have flown over 200!" still all over the shop though)
Screenshot of my range practice. Or random dots thrown overlayed on a fairway. It's hard to tell which.

Also, for any US followers: the AFL Grand final (our Superbowl) is on at the same ground in a couple of weeks. Expect another 100k people and a game that's an order of magnitude more confusing.

Reading a paper that involves a 2048-dimensional latent space. How do you even start to think about these? It's actually quite simple, just think about an N dimensional space, and set N to 2048.

Thanks for indulging me. This is the first publication entirely driven by the Bioimage Analysis Core at @wehi-research.bsky.social and I can't thank everyone involved, but know that you're all appreciated and I wish all your lattice data be manageable! We can help with that!

Thanks also to all the authors for the contributions. And mostly to lead author @pradeepr.bsky.social – who has never stopped thinking of improvements and passion for OSS has ensured that napari-lattice has become a useful piece of software for the community, not just a pipeline that only we can use

Finally (nothing is ever final), I want to thank everyone involved. Of course @krogersiooi.bsky.social our fearless leader, @niallgeoghegan.bsky.social wizard of the lattice, @haesleinhuepf.bsky.social for his GPU libraries. Michael Milton for wrangling our spaghetti code into a modern structure.

But @DrLachie I hear you say – what if your cells move! Well I'm glad you asked (kind of), we've toyed with a workaround and are looking at integrating tracking data into our pipeline – so keep an eye on the github for new features as we develop them!
A moving cell is tracked across the field by an ROI drawn at each timepoint.

DrLachie @drlachie.bsky.social · 10/09/2026
But why do one-by-one when you can do ALL AT ONCE! As a part of the development, we built in flexibility to parallelise over any parameter. ROI was the obvious one, but you could also do by time point, channel, even Z-range if you really wanted. All HPC enabled!
ANALYSE ALL THE THINGS! (Apologies to Hyperbole and a Half)

So, we (mostly @pradeepr.bsky.social ), started developing a pipeline that would take ROIs extract and only process those one-by-one - rather than the whole image Around here we also got a small development grant from @chanzuckerberg.bsky.social to make it into a @napari.org plugin.

We mostly use the LLSz for cellular imaging and we made the observation that in a field of view full of cells, more often than not, the cells are actually all independent measurements. If they don't interact, (or move much), why are we processing the whole image? Most of the image is empty!

When we purchased our Zeiss Lattice Light Sheet all the problems we thought we knew from previously building our own were amplified by how much data it could acquire quickly. LLS data needs to be deskewed before viewing or analysis, if you want to add deconvolution – GPUs start catching fire
