Getting pummeled with Susan Collins ads, texts, and mailers here in Maine. The $ must be pouring in from Elon. I’m a registered Dem, have never been a registered Republican and have never expressed the slightest interest in the GOP with my phone, and yet, the mail and the texts keep coming.

Had a dream last night I was playing Michael Jordan 1 on 1 in basketball on a low rim so I could dunk, and I was doing pretty well. 😆 Any ideas what this means for the job search that’s been occupying my life this past week and a half?

Got some bad news. Due to enrollment issues at Rivier, my contract will not be renewed next year. President twice said the decision was "definitely not performance related." If you know of a role that might be a good fit for me, here’s some more info: www.linkedin.com/posts/joseph...

Reminder: If the Supreme Court upholds Trump’s attack on birthright citizenship, some of the ICE officers currently brutalizing Minnesotans may be reassigned to apprehend newborns from the hospital for immediate deportation. Just read the Trump administration’s own memo. slate.com/news-and-pol...

To that end, USCIS declared flatly that the children of immigrants who are "unlawfully present" will "no longer be U.S. citizens at birth."
They will, instead, inherit the status of their parents, rendering them detainable and deportable as infants and throughout their lives.
There is no indication that the government will provide some grace period before snatching up and imprisoning this new underclass of noncitizen babies; they are apparently subject to arrest from the moment of birth.

Pretty rarely. That would be annoying. If I were leaning more toward R&R than accept w revisions in that case, I’d say reject.

010

Joseph M. Forte, Ph.D. @drjmf.bsky.social · 16/01/2026

I think it would be pretty dumb to get rid of R&Rs, mainly for the first reason you mention. Also, I find it very rare as a referee to come across a paper that is totally hopeless, on the one hand, or one that’s flawless on the other. I almost always recommend accept w minor revisions or R&R

Plus the reading load in such programs often seems to fly in the face of accreditation guidelines for out-of-class hours, pushing students to breeze through life changing texts way too quickly to really be appreciated. Maybe things were different at Tulsa though.

There’s a lot of truth here, but even as a huge fan of liberal ed and book reading, I’m skeptical of the great books model as the sole approach. I prefer a mix of Socratic style seminar sessions with other class formats, since short lectures, in-class writing, etc are often pedagogically valuable

I’d say to contact an editor who’s higher up. I don’t think I was ever ghosted for that long but there have definitely been times when weeks would go by after I sent an email, then more weeks after a follow-up, after which I’d start asking others who work with the person what’s going on.
