What happens when a scholar trying to write about serious stuff…also has children…
A white tablet with “Death and time: they are inextricably connected” handwritten at the top of a blank page and a kid’s drawing of a heart with arms, legs, eyes, and smiley face below it.

Too good not to share…to all my fellow writers out there who are anxiously waiting to hear what other people think about some new article, proposal, book, or any other written thing that you’ve poured your soul and mind into, just remember THIS:
Two scoops of rainbow ice cream on a cone on a blue and pink background next to the words “Next time you get feedback, remember that some people don’t like ice cream.”

I wrote a little thing about timekeeping anxieties in Henry VI, Part I! Available open-access for a limited time in postmedieval (along with lots of other cool pieces in this special edition)!

Academic article proofs: does anybody else experience intense terror-laced-regret about your decision to write anything about any topic ever…with just a whiff of joy/relief mixed in… upon receipt of these things? Or just me?!

#shax2025 —wonder what it’s like to work in the corporate world while still endeavoring to actively research & publish in the field? I’m doing it (admittedly imperfectly) and happy to talk. Let’s connect in Boston!

#shax2025 PSA: flying United? Ralph Fiennes as Macbeth is on the in air entertainment. 😱 Please watch. And then find me in Boston so we can break it down with the kind of exhausting granularity only a couple of Shakes-nerds would enjoy.

As if Jeffrey Cohen hasn’t given us enough reasons to admire him as a scholar and academic leader, now this! Love the honesty…as I read his post right after I started a list of words from my earlier writing I hope never to catch myself using again! #1 : concomitant What’s on your list???

Universities are in crisis. We have forgotten that the only way to prepare for the future is to imagine the human in situations yet unknown and to explore the boundaries of the human condition. A focus on economic gain loses sight of all that might be possible.
