Who won? Yall know I'm partisan 🤣but I thought Chippy did very well this debate. Clear, concise, across all the portfolios, relatable, and some good zingers. Luxon too easily flustered, avoided the question a lot. But not completely terrible.

Regret to inform you that NONE of my children are in school this week, even WORSE the school doesnt seem to have noticed and have not texted me to say they are absent
Screenshot of article. Text reads, Why are you not in school?' It’s school holidays

David Seymour stopped to speak to some children at Velocity Valley in Rotorua, giving them a piece of advice.

“Don’t trust politicians,” he said. “Are you a politician?,” they questioned.

After the three children asked if he was going to be on the news and waved at the cameras, he said: “hey, one question, how come you guys aren’t at school?”

It’s school holidays, they said.

Seymour said they could still go into school, but the kids didn’t seemed thrilled by that idea.

“No, it’s ok,” they said before walking away.

Not even an ounce of self reflection. TPU were the ones lying to ppl about the cost!!! They frightened ratepayers and also downplayed the actual figures!! TPU DID THIS TO US! Argh I am losing my mind
Screenshot of taxpayers union Facebook post. Text reads, From $3 million to $16.85 million. 🚀

That’s the cost of setting up Waikato Waters!

Ratepayers were told 3 million. Now the bill is nearly $17 million.

How does a water organisation rack up millions in establishment costs and still blow through its own budget by this much?

But they won't worry, just chuck it on the ratepayers tab and carry on! 💸

It is a colossal failure by National, NZFirst, and ACT to understand how scientific discovery works and progresses. Instead they're more focused on removing opposing thought, reducing dissenting voices, squeezing out Māori, and "weeding out the woke" from research.
Screenshot of text. Text reads, Moving our funding system to prioritise commercial outcomes does not necessarily just mean favouring a group of more commercially savvy researchers over others; it means a narrowing of the intellectual environment in which we all work. Even as individuals.

The spin of this govt is just ridiculous. They have significantly reduced research funding and narrowed the criteria to access what is left
Screenshot of text. Text reads, The trick here is that, while the Government says the plan itself doesn’t cut science funding, that is only because those cuts to science funding have already been announced. In the last two years, Marsden funding has been reduced and narrowed (with arts and humanities excluded), National Science Challenge funding has disappeared, the Endeavour Fund has been disrupted, and research money has been redirected into restructuring the science system and commercialisation initiatives.

If one is genuinely interested in upholding the rights of mana whenua, this article deep dives into this topic at Maungatautari. The mountain was fenced off, and aerial poison bait drops cleared invasive predator species - cats, rats, stoats and possums. www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10....
This paper describes, situates and evaluates the use of indigenous knowledge by local Maori stakeholders in the Maungatautari Ecological Island Trust and project, a multi-stakeholder community-based biodiversity conservation project located on New Zealand's North Island. Local Maori groups known as Mana Whenua (subtribes with ancestral rights to certain lands) connect through ancestral and tribal ties to Maungatautari, a prominent mountain in the Waikato region and site of the project.

This is a great blog by an American visiting our country and posting about the experience, and how conservation in this country means trapping and killing introduced predatory animals like rats, stoats, and weasels arocha.org.nz/blog/killing...
But wait…since when did conservation involve killing?! Before preparing to travel to New Zealand, I had no idea about the ongoing rodent massacre in New Zealand.

As it turns out, New Zealand is an extremely unique country ecologically speaking. Located in the middle of the South Pacific ocean, the closest country, Australia, is more than 1700 km (1000 miles) away. Due to this isolation, the entire island was populated only by birds. The only native mammals found in the country pre-human settlement were bats. Because of this, the birds evolved in complete isolation from land-based predators.

Dr Bex @drbex.bsky.social · 27/07/2026
This is also a thoughtful piece on the need to hold the tensions of conservation and killing of introduced predators destroying native flora and fauna pupurangi.com/blog/predato...
There isn't a version of protecting this forest that leaves the predators in it. Trapping and baiting are the methods that work and they are the same ones usec across the country, including by the New Zealand Department of Conservation.

Oh, look, the law is quite clear and unequivocal - information received by a Minister is part of the public record. The PM and his Cabinet know this. They are deliberately flouting the law to avoid public scrutiny of their shady shenanigans aka cronyism and corruption. bsky.app/profile/rich...

Screnshot of text. Text reads, In mid-2024, two of New Zealand's largest

drafted a specific, two-sentence
amendment to the country's climate laws.

National MPs, with their six figure salaries, who claim accommodation supplements that are more than some state housing occupants earn in a year, stripping away accomm support for state housing tenants is some next level hypocritical cruelty. www.stuff.co.nz/politics/360... #nzpol
Ministerial expense claims show the
social development minister claims
$1000 per week, while the pecuniary
interests register shows she jointly
owns an apartment in Wellington. It
does not show any mortgage debts
owed.
The amount Upston claimed last year
was $52,000, on top of her $320,600
ministerial salary.
