watching this essay on hiromix, i remember coming of age on the internet of the early 2000s, learning to make art, to express and document in a self created digital world felt so limitless in its possibilities. our space and our voices were our own, and the world felt so big.

I came to Minneapolis to report on what's going on, and one of the main questions I showed up with is "just what is the scale of the resistance?" After all, we're all used to the news calling Portland a "war zone" or whatever when it's just some protests in one part of town.

i once found marilyn monroe, fragments, a book of her intimate written ephemera & emily dickinson, the gorgeous nothings in the same visit in different corners of my favorite secondhand shop — like magic, but i think they must have come from the same home. or at least, they are now both in mine.

A black & white pen and printing ink Illustration of a man standing staring into a fire in an old fashioned parlour. An ornate rug beneath him, a wingback chair to his right (the man has his back to us) a Christmas tree and presents on his left. A single candle on a shelf above the live fire. The roaring fire casts the man’s shadow across the rug. The man is distant, thoughtful and…anxious. Festive but with a hint of menace.

This is not the AI boom creating a new type of work, this is a classic example of managers using automation to deskill old ones. Creative workers who once made a higher wage creating original art and writing are now paid in piecework to edit automated output. Bosses are using AI to cut labor costs.

3rd avenue el station windows 1. arnold eagle, 1936 2. lothar stelter, 1950
old black and white photograph of an ornamented window, there are beautiful patterns along the edge of the frame and top half of the glass. the photo is taken from the perspective of someone looking out of the window onto the street partially obscured belowthis photo is of the same window, or a window from the same building, but we see it in colour, taken a few years later, looking out onto the street. a woman in pink is sitting, posed for the photographer on the other side of the glass, she is blurred ever so slightly by the dirty window, she is like a dream and we see the filigree on the window is alternating red and black and frames her and the street below delicately
