Give a person a game engine and they'll eventually deliver a game. Teach them to make a game engine and they'll never deliver anything ever again

As a research project, I built a needed tool with Claude Code. I though it would be a disaster, but It wasn't. I have some complicated feelings about it.

I used AI. It worked. I hated it.
I used Claude Code to build a tool I needed. It worked great, but I was miserable. I need to reckon with what it means.

here’s mine. some of those are worn out due to fact that they have been on 3 different laptop
Photo of a laptop on a table. The laptop is bloated with stickers:
- « Linux Inside » which mocks the « Intel Inside » sticker
- NixOS logo
- jujutsu version control system logo
- The official Framework mantra « You should be able to fix your stuff »
- « Ficsit coupon » from the game Satisfactory
- « Property of Arasaka » label from the game Cyberpunk 2077
- Pixel art Chicken from the game Stardew Valley
- Obnoxious « Rewrite in Rust » with a crab saluting, inspired by the Moon Race
- The Pathfinder space ship from the TV show « For All Mankind »
- A Saturn V rocket

the thing i'm worried about is whether AI will decimate the "flow states" of knowledge work. i realize this is very selfish. i enjoy being in a flow state. i don't want to constantly be babysitting an unlearning intern who repeatedly violates instructions. even if they eventually produce good work

Windows is actually the worst system to build onto. What do you mean I need to reboot because I installed the C++ toolchain an IDE and cmake, else it won’t work?!

i can not stress enough just how Bad most cheap "new" Windows laptops are. they are manufactured ewaste that if i didn't knew any better i'd assume were made specifically to make people hate the idea of An Computer and lock themselves away to smartphone/tablet life forever

It's even better when I go home and I talk to my non-tech industry family about their exposure to AI, and they're like, "I've heard of ChatGPT, but I don't know much about it." A life I'll never know.

Meta announced today that it also wants to introduce ads on WhatsApp, which will be based on personal data from Facebook and Instagram. This further integrates WhatsApp into other Meta services - an originally independent app, which initially was available for just $1 per year without ads or data usage. This also means that Meta is consolidating its social networking monopoly. EU law was actually supposed to prevent this."

The next release of Determinate Nix will start addressing two issues that commonly confuse our users: 1. `nix-channel` is deprecated, and using it will issue a warning. 2. Using an indirect flakeref or implicit registry input in a flake.nix will also raise a warning. >>>

I really wish more developers or researchers would realise that using ChatGPT to write something like a README or using an AI image generator to generate a logo adds like a layer of gross goop onto a project. please stop doing it!! i know you're using it to look "professional" but it looks iiickyyy!

The irony that a company called "OpenAI" tried to keep their advancements secret and private, which allowed a "competitor"--one participating in the traditional virtuous cycle of academic-style publishing of technological advancement--to blow up the entire AI investment bubble OpenAI helped create.
