this is the guy i reposted the other day who interviewed meta employees with pervert glasses - meta have taken his video down for “harassment”. which makes it one of the most effective pieces of satire in recent memory

That's not quite how I remember it. I was a teen in music rehearsals all that day - the conductor lit a candle on the piano. I was telling my friends how weird it all was, and then was totally thrown when they wanted to write condolences messages to Williams and Harry at lunch time.

There's actually research on this and it involves scrutiny. If you're Black people are going to look at your work looking for mistakes in a way they would never for white people.

Have to reshare this every time I see it. Raymond Chandler mocking science fiction in 1953 and sounding cool as hell. He should have written some space stories.
Did you ever read what they call Science Fiction? It’s a scream. It is written like this:

“I checked out with K19 on Aldabaran III, and stepped out through the crummalite hatch on my 22 Model Sirus Hardtop. I cocked the timejector in secondary and waded through the bright blue manda grass. My breath froze into pink pretzels. I flicked on the heat bars and the Brylls ran swiftly on five legs using their other two to send out crylon vibrations. The pressure was almost unbearable, but I caught the range on my wrist computer through the transparent cysicites. I pressed the trigger. The thin violet glow was icecold against the rust-colored mountains. The Brylls shrank to half an inch long and I worked fast stepping on them with the poltex. But it wasn’t enough. The sudden brightness swung me around and the Fourth Moon had already risen. I had exactly four seconds to hot up the disintegrator and Google⁵ had told me it wasn’t enough. He was right.”

They pay brisk money for this crap?

Absolutely. And the whole one day opening in Jan was the worst of all the possibilities. Everything at the last minute, no forward planning done at all. Schools were very badly treated!

If we’re discussing covid, back in August 2020 the Prime Minister of the UK, Rishi Sunak, introduced a programme that subsidised £850m for people to congregate in enclosed spaces and get infected with the disease that killed people, then the state broadcaster depicted him as a superhero

Yes. Also, don't leave lockdown until the absolute last minute which creates the need for longer, harsher lockdowns!

I think the absolutism is discussing "school closure" as a single yes vs no concept. I think schools locked down far too much, but that's because they left it too late which necessitated longer, harsher lockdowns.

My children caught covid at school and as a result nearly lost one of their parents. Other children were not as lucky. Covid was definitely a threat to them.

Thank you for this. I have been reducing my family's animal-product consumption, and the balance of ethics and nutrition is tough with children, esp with a coeliac to cook for. But things like this convince me it is worthwhile. 💪🏻

I worry that everyone liking this skeet might have missed that a globally best-selling writer is so transphobic that she's forgotten how adjectives work.

(When I see people write "trans woman" without the space, it makes me think of "transatlantic" or "transparent". It's a very silly dog whistle.)
0130
Dr Attercop @drattercop.bsky.social · 25/07/2026
The GCs remove the space from "trans woman" because they think this shows that it is like "jellyfish": a compound noun that is not a kind of fish. But blackbirds are birds and red pandas are not pandas. English grammar is not going to do their transphobia for them.

I think the house image works better with the overall theme of the book, but I agree that including the scars would have been positive.

It's particularly odd because it does seem like the author of the report has read it. And they seem quite irritated by how much of it they liked.
Homebody, a graphic novel by Theo Parish, was on the 2025 shortlist. It starts promisingly, as a tale of rebellion against feminine stereotypes. The unnamed heroine is annoyed when she’s snubbed by the boys at chess club. At first, she realises she fancies a girl at secondary school. Homebody could have been a lesbian Bildungsroman or dyke romance – a story that encouraged same-sex attracted young women to feel good about themselves.
But in a later section of Homebody, the protagonist (who likes upper case) opts to, ‘FLATTEN MY CHEST TO GET A MORE MASCULINE SHAPE’. It is disappointing when an author, who could have dished up a cracking yarn, gives us half-baked stuff about gender identity instead.

The image on the right is from the "SEEN in Publishing report into trans activism in children’s literature and library services" (🤮). The image on the right is the page from the actual book. I think the image was from Theo Parish's social media account, before the book was even developed.

If you look at the Amazon reviews, the images of the strappy get-up are there from from different angles, so I think it is unlikely that it was never there. The publisher says that some images were doctored - maybe the kissing?

Dr Attercop @drattercop.bsky.social · 20/07/2026
I've tried, but I can't be sure whether the image is doctored or whether it just wasn't in the UK version of the book. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-engl...
"Many of those spreading this vitriol are using doctored imagery and illustrations that are not present in the UK version of the book, further stoking hatred all in the name of culture wars.

Thank you for posting this! I have a copy of Homebody, and I've spotted that the the report criticises it for a picture that just isn't in the book.
Cartoon image of person lying on grass topless showing top surgery scars. The text reads "The day I will call this house home". The caption undernead reads "Homebody by non-binary identifying female, Theo Parish, includes illustrations of mastectomy scars,
painting extreme body modification as ‘radical self love’. This book won a Carnegie medal for illustration!"Cartoon of a house, divided into panels showing a non-binary person happily looking in a mirror, boxing up unwanted clothes and using their new name. The text reads "The day I will call this house home."

Yes, the Labour party are worse than the Conservatives were, but it's more than that - those of us who were horrified by the cruelty of the Tories were never going to vote for them anyway so they lost nothing. But Labour should care about my vote, and I fucking *hate* them because of this shit.
