As is, long time players are divisive on how they make new friends, world discovery will have to work in the same ways. It's a social platform, both players and the worlds they happen in are both inherently interactions. If those interactions become noise without meaning, you'll lose both in it.

So long as the attackers can use legitimate tools to flood VRChat, the platform will have to adjust to survive. How players play the game will need to see better tools for filtering out what attackers are still able to flood in before it gets eventually removed.

Not to mince words, this is a legitimate cyber attack disguised as a morale delimma. This is a battle on two fronts that ultimately means one clear thing. The tools for submitting, including being able to submit, content to VRChat must change and will impact legitimate people.

So logically, there must be a new barrier of entry for legitimate use to continue. These come in filters, a vetting process, and tools that can review submissions as they're received. Anything a normal person can use, can be used in the attack and that's the current problem.

Overpower would require there to be hardware that can compete on responsiveness, storage to retain all the info anyway, and still have enough room for its legitimate userbase. The longer this goes on without a purge or freeze in service, the more expensive this will get for VRChat to maintain.

So VRChat is essentially undergoing an information flood attack. It's not too different from DDOS attacks that still plagues the industry. The only way to really combat that while keeping a legitimate userbase is to either overpower it with moderation or to essentially raise the barrier of entry.

Imagine VRChat becoming a platform where it takes longer to load a world than it took to make. Don't even need to count time to write a prompt, because that could be generated too with another AI. Imagine bot networks mass uploading worlds. If VRChat supports AI, this is the slippery slope.

We can only hope for the folks at VRChat and that they'll manage to keep what's left of the community alive. Even before this AI problem existed, we were already seeing a decline in folks developing VRChat Worlds. It's easy to see gloom in regards to the current response being a hesitant one.

AI has multiple meanings, like mobs in RPGs for what attacks enemies do, or path finding for how units in an RTS or MOBA navigate to where players click. It's easy to see generative AI as exponential Wii Shuffleware, drowning out real hand crafted efforts, but it's also significantly worse morally.

I ain’t gonna lie, the more I see AI art, the more sticky and gross it feels. Like a group I’m in did a joint commission from an artist to have all our avis drawn in p&s style and I just get nothin but warm fuzzies lookin at it. I never get those warm fuzzies lookin at AI art. Not even close.

Guess I really had a blind eye to who Marty O'donnell is as a person. Really connected with the interviews and such regarding game dev, both passion and the horrors of crunch. Mainly looked up to him since I was a kid; now disillusioned and mournful over the positive figure I thought he was.

I worry about how present I've been over the course of this year. On the other hand, I've made some really great strides in fitness. Went from around a 50in waist down to 43in after two years of a medical condition that prevented getting fit. Finally at a point that working out doesn't wipe me out.
