A supervisee of mine is looking for men aged 18-34 in the UK willing to be interviewed about their experiences of seeking mental health or emotional support (e.g. from friends, family, GP, therapy). More info here: app.onlinesurveys.jisc.ac.uk/s/coventry/h...
A poster that reads as follows: Are you a man who has reached out for help for your mental health distress?

You could help if:

Rory Laytor Trainee Clinical Psychologist

You are a man aged 18-34.

distress (e.g. stress, low mood, anxiety) as an adult. This can be formal services, friends, or family.

You are not currently experiencing an acute mental health crisis

What will you be asked to do?

The study will involve taking part in an online interview with the lead researcher, Rory Layton, to share your experience of seeking support for your mental health distress. This will take approximately 60 minutes.

Confidentiality and anonymity will be strictly maintained. There is an offer of a shopping voucher as a thank you for your time.

The BPS response to the EHRC's code of practice: "the Code may create a chilling effect...undermining access to vital support and participation in everyday life for trans people" cms.bps.org.uk/sites/defaul...
We recommend the Code be strengthened by:

Clarifying lawful approaches to trans inclusion.

Providing practical examples of how trans-inclusive services (e.g., domestic abuse shelters, counselling services, community sport) have successfully balanced dignity, privacy, and legal compliance.

Supporting providers in navigating the balancing of different service user needs and affirming that the rights and dignity of all groups, including both women and trans people, can be upheld without one group feeling excluded or unprotected.

These changes would enhance clarity and promote psychologically safe service provision.

Today marks 20 years since the Civil Partnership Act 2004 was passed. Landmark legislation for LGBTQ equality 🏳️‍🌈 It also marks 20(ish) years of my academic journey with my first involvement in research being prompted by this. It has remained a theme in my research ever since. Here are some takeaways
Key Insights From My Research on Civil Partnership1) A Stepping Stone to Equality For many same-sex couples civil partnerships marked progress but viewed them as "second best" compared to marriage.2) A Distinct Alternative For others, they offered an egalitarian alternative to marriage, allowing same-sex couples to define their relationships outside heteronormative traditions and expectations.3) An Evolving Legal & Social Landscape Same-sex marriage changed the landscape. Fewer same-sex couples opted for Civil Partnership. Meanwhile, some different-sex couples opted for civil partnership as an egalitarian alternative
