Today on random Facebook slop: Siri show me an example of irony
Very clearly AI-generated image with the caption "NO DATA CENTER on earth is worth the DESTRUCTION of the wildlife, rivers, and trees. Do you agree?"

The image shows an AI-slop deer in an AI-slop "forest" overlooking AI-slop "deforested" areas containing a large AI-slop industrial building.

If there's one groups in society who NEED to stop using AI to make resources, slides, posters, it's teachers. You're literally showing your students that you used AI to do your own homework. You look like a moron. It's shameful. Do not do this.

I mean, I'd say "I've seen this film before", but the film was South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut, the year was 1999, and if they were right about what happens immediately afterwards, we should all be concerned for our eternal souls.

My language may have been flippantly tongue in cheek. The bit I was not grasping is how valid these results actually are, or how confident we are yet that they hold.

I don't get what's going on here, has AI solved maths? Or is it doing hallucinations and making wild claims? Or might it be both and nobody's sure yet?

When I first read about the death penalty as a child, I thought it was barbaric. Still do. A state that gives itself the judicial power to kill debases itself and everyone it involves in that repulsive business.

If you write your Outlook meeting invitation using AI, I will simply not go out of principle. And yes, I can always tell. Using 2000 words where 50 would do. Daft clauses of emphasised bold text. The em-dashes. The bullet-points. Get it out of my face and try again.

Adam Neely did an excellent video essay on this: www.youtube.com/watch?v=U8dc... In the chapter starting at 24:14 he observes that everyone who makes AI music can only cite themselves as their favourite artist. AI artists don't listen to other AI artists' music.

Marten and Faye from Questionable Content #6.

Dialogue reads: FAYE: You can get me a glass of water is what you can do. MARTEN: Gah! I uh duh buh YES WATER RIGHT

I wish articles like this would adjust historic prices for inflation. I have no idea if 32p=>222p over 40 years is bad. Turns out, yes, it is bad, diesel has more than doubled in price in real terms since 1986. But how am I meant to know that if all prices are nominal? www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

*sigh* I want to be a full throated supporter of HS2, I really do. But the amount by which it has been cut back has been a body blow for the overall business case. A Willesden to Curzon Street shuttle shouldn't need more than 2tph and 2 platforms. I fail to see what the other 5 will achieve.

TIL that it is impossible to get from London to Birmingham by train in a way that arrives before 07:45 in the morning on a weekday, and I think this is insane.
Google journey options for London to Birmingham leaving at 03:35. The earliest direct arrival is 07:48. There is an 07:46 option changing at Nuneaton but that barely counts.
