Oh it was a thrill! The adrenaline when I spotted a few identifying field marks from the boat on a tiny bird a half mile away was so so satisfying I’m thankfully not too disappointed at leaving it unidentified The joy was seeing

I spotted a white-rumped storm petrel But it was at a far distance and no one with better ID skills than I could get on it fast enough. I managed a few photos, but ultimately this storm petrel will have to be left identified 😭 🪶

Walking around in the bush with my head down again this morning. I’m absolutely in love with the gills on this mushroom. I think it might be a type of oysterling. 🍄🌿

Looking at the underside of a frilly oyster mushroom. The different lobes overlap, each other kind of like a nudibranch, it’s tan gills form, beautiful, ripping patterns.

I’m getting on my 10th whale watching trip to waters near Newport Beach. Yesterday 2 Orcas were seen in our waters I’ve been mostly using these boats to help myself self ID pelagic birds, but the possibility of seeing wild Orcas for the first time is quite exhilarating
