A bold move, considering your moniker.

Just need to substitute that giant insulated mug for a styrofoam cup.

It is. It reminds me of when I saw this sign and spent a few weeks trying to remind myself to use it that way. I couldn't pull it off.

Absolutely do not request more information about the Church of Latter Day Saints be sent to that number.

Which circles is back to Rob's original post. Waterproof breathable membranes were game changers for winter active outerwear. But the summer market is way bigger and the marketing department was like - we can sell this to those summer people, too.

Evaporative coolers work. But the amount of water they need to really make an impact at scale is just not typically available where the conditions for them to work are present...AC is basically an evaporative cooler with a more efficient medium that also gets reused.

The conclusion you reach is that it can breath when you are exerting yourself in dry conditions AND it can keep out rain. But it really can't do both at the same time. Making peace with that and managing my expectations has been good for my rainy day enjoyment.

I was griping about the same thing once. And someone I was with brought up OG goretex marketing that showed the membrane holding coffee in a cup while the steam escaped through it. Had me think through why that was an ideal demo and what was different between it and being in a rainstorm.

Can't be done. Not a big enough gradient between the humidity inside and the humidity outside the coat. Can't dry wet air with wet air.

Getting them into rental fleets is only going to help if they get involved enough to ensure renters have a good experience. Picking up a car with low charge and having no support figuring out where to charge at the start of a trip has soured more than a few people on the electric idea.

Had a dream last night that when ships pull into port they need to stand on end and spin in order to rebalance their systems. Your dream sounds better.

Yeah. Slightly more faith in apple than google. But, until proven otherwise, my faith is primarily in Crutchfield.

Yes. Assuming they get their constellation launched (starlink is trying some shenanigans to interfere there). I'm asking, did they proactively choose that, or did they get boxed out of SL?

At my core, the idea of a vehicle without a swappable head unit makes me uncomfortable. Given that's the way things are, I guess I have more faith in ongoing support from Apple/Google in the name of keeping their new gadgets compatible than I do in support for ever changing proprietary systems.

Even in (so far theoretical) vehicles where the native system rocks, carplay/AA are needed if you think someone else may ever borrow the car. When I visit my mom, I don't want to take the time to configure and learn the BMW system. Carplay works quick and easy.

Do we think this is Delta purposefully doing something different? Or was no sales to Delta part of the contract United negotiated?

I witnessed this behavior at a park in Burien. The value of the vehicle suggested the operator could afford garbage service at home, but the bag sure looked like kitchen trash.

Anyway, now when I hear it, it translates to "we have chosen not to employ adequate staff to handle our expected call volume."
000
DanG @dpgestwick.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
I feel like that high call volume language got added everywhere during the pandemic and has become default. I am welcomed by it even when wait times are two minutes. Opening with a (possibly) false statement does not make me charitable to any other hold messages.

Thanks for drawing attention to this. I just went a dropped a comment suggesting that instead of paid parking we pedestrianize it. Looking forward to seeing what response that gets.

Not sure if I have, but since you are sticker posting again it reminded me of this thing I saw a few weeks back: bsky.app/profile/dpge...

At DTW the best 'lounge' can be the lobby and restaurant at the Westin, as long as their dedicated security line to return to the terminal is open. Quiet, comfy, and frequently very empty. Years ago they would sell you a cheap day pass for the fitness center, but I haven't tried that recently.

What's the consensus on how that was allowed the first time to set the precedent? Did people figure FB would just flame out like friendster and myspace so it just didn't matter?

When I go visit my mom, the weatherman of my youth is still on the air. So Yes.

Account snafu aside, how have you liked that hardware? Amazon just bricked* my perfectly good but very old Kindle and I'm in the market for something else. Have you loaded any books directly or just through their store? *Stopped letting me add any new books to it.

Agreed. Both because Chester is cool and because the aurora livery does not look as good in person as it does in photos and renderings.

Do you have an answer for the people?

I expect most people who make a deposit like that have plenty of other 50Ks invested variously. But I bet there were a handful in that thousand that really put themselves in a bind by making that deposit.

My eighty year old mom is probably more familiar with this song than fifty year old me because she turns on the today show every morning. It's way easier to not know what's going on in "the mainstream" than it used to be, but many more niche pockets are also known....

DanG @dpgestwick.bsky.social · 27/09/2026
What? You've never used a beer coozy to patch a pipe?

It's so infuriating. I wanna carry stickers that say "Watch out, I'm the sort of person that parks on the sidewalk." But I doubt I would have it in me to actually apply one.

As with many things, the problem is less about the tool than the user. Specifically, a leaf blower seems to make people think that blowing their trash into the street is an acceptable way to get rid of it — because they didn't touch it, maybe? Looking at you, carwash around the corner.

I feel strongly that if the website I navigate to is called Amazon and the charge on my credit card says Amazon, Amazon should handle all customer service issues. If they wanna have deals with thousands of other sellers, that's their problem to manage. I didn't go to that seller.

DanG @dpgestwick.bsky.social · 26/09/2026
That's good news. It's still hard to watch then struggle, but understanding why makes it less disturbing.

My story is we need to work together to figuratively remove the Xs from this sign that feels too accurate.

We had an old dog snap to normal upon arrival at the vet after hours of stumbling and walking in circles. Had the same fears. Vet said 'old dog vestibular disease.' The bits in the ear used for balance had gotten stuck. Hope it turns out to be something similarly benign for you.

I've been so wrapped around the axle in my head thinking about loading crosspoint on the xteink, I had overlooked the android options. Well, a new way to overthink all this. Good thing those lonesome dove books are long....
