Not finding a lot I love in my trip photos. And I'm not truly happy with the light in this one, but I wanted to share just because it's wild to see the lot at sunrise empty save a few work trucks a couple clusters of pumpkin tanks.
Looking down from sourdough ridge across a brown meadow at a mostly empty Sunrise. Rainier looms in the background. It had a bit of an apocalyptic feel being there on a sunny day with no one around and no activity and sprinklers set up ready to go around the buildings. The fires in the park are not super close, but the area is being used for staging, so the road remains closed to cars. Bikers can still ride up. We hiked up from White River.

I just listened to this week's episode of @moredotsmorelines.com and they mentioned Egypt air will start flying to Sydney via Singapore. I flew Singapore-Sydney on Egypt Air in 2001 and have a few standout memories of the experience. It was:

Fur balls. The pika were not being shy this weekend. The little, zoomy point and shoot I carry backpacking excels at critter closeups in good light. Other shots returned more challenging images that I don't have it in me to deal with today. Maybe I'll have something more soon.

Had lunch with a view on Friday. Just laying this down as a marker, so hopefully I go though the other photos I took and share one or two of them.
My leg and foot in the foreground. Mt. Rainier pokes up above the Palisades in the distance. Blue skies above.

Got paid to ride two hours to the airport in the back of a fifteen passenger van and drive the empty van back after the group was dropped off.

August. I actually took these early in the month and forgot to post them. A couple of closeups of the visible damage the beetles are doing to the tree. Bore holes and discolored bark.

Check it out. New (to me, and newish overall) Lego art aboard the MV Issaquah. A model of itself, complete with full car deck. Photos aren't great. I held a polarizing filter in front of my phone camera to try to reduce glare from the case. #WSFerries

Seattle photographers with an interest in trains: there is a train of old passenger cars parked between 99 and 1st Ave in sodo. The smoke is creating age/period appropriate light, but may also make going out there unappealing.

July. The leaves remain green, but the catkins have mostly turned brown and started to fall.
Closeup of a branch with green leaves and both green and brown catkins. One near the center had a section missing where the little fleur-de-lis have fallen away. An accidental shot that I liked with good detail of the leaves on the left side. A view of the main trunk from an angle I don't think I've posted here before. The tiny fleur-de-lis from the catkins litter the black surface of a patio table

It's so gorgeous. A perfect Alpine valley. When I was last there (2011? 12 maybe) a good portion of the hike up was through a burn.
The Napequa valley from little giant pass. A messengering river in a green valley with snow capped peaks on the sides. Charred trees and fire weed.

With the current discourse it seems like a good time to remind people we still have a dedicated map store in Seattle. Metskers. Please buy stuff there so they stay in business and I can keep buying paper maps because I really like having them when planning trips.

People, myself included, like to shit on phone cameras and computational photography. But, I have to admit, I do enjoy playing with the the after the fact long exposures. Even if they do lead to cartoonish results, sometimes.
The Fraser River blurred behind a pair of birch trees. This one I kind of like. It's along the campground nature trail in Mt. Robson provincial park. I highly recommend British Columbia as a destination for the 4th of July if you have a dog that hates fireworks. This one is less cool. I mean, look at that hard edge between the river and the forest on the right. It's ridiculous and cartoonish. But still sort of cool that you can even make it.

Anyway, this is still the Fraser, a bit upstream of the previous photo. Same trip. British Columbia is also good for people that don't like being kept up all night by their neighbors shooting off thousands of dollars worth of fireworks at all hours of the night.

Had dream last night that i was on a photo walk and everyone's light meters stopped working and we all had to do it the old way. The old way: put a "calibrated" stripe of peanut butter on the front element and then measure its impedance.
