Why does tissue function decline in ageing? One reason is that the stem cells that maintain normal homeostasis become mis-regulated. In our latest preprint, we identify the transcription factor Sob as a key regulator of Drosophila intestinal stem cells and aging. www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...

The Transcription Factor Sob Maintains Intestinal Stem Cell Homeostasis to Delay Ageing
Ageing is associated with physiological decline and disrupted tissue homeostasis, often driven by imbalanced stem cell activity. The Drosophila midgut serves as a powerful model for studying epithelia...

🚨 New paper from our lab just published in Nature🚨 www.nature.com/articles/s41... Discover how 🌱 tumour formation is shaped by tissue context from the very beginning. Cancer is not driven by genetics alone ✨Fantastic team led by Greta Skrupskelyte, Eduardo Rojo, @hariajith.bsky.social

Another exciting PhD opportunity involving some collaborative fly stem cell work. This one is led by Ting-Yu Lin from the @cpbm-heddlelab.bsky.social and will use a range of biochemical and biophysical techniques to explore the function of a critical RNA modifier: www.findaphd.com/phds/project...

Today the Royal Society will meet to discuss “Fellows’ behaviour”. Without doubt the fellow they will primarily be discussing is Elon Musk. The behaviour may range from his public dissemination of unfounded conspiracy theories to his attacks on the science 🧵 1/38

1. Today the NIH director issued a new directive slashing overhead rates to 15%. I want to provide some context on what that means and why it matters. grants.nih.gov/grants/guide...

We are recruiting for 2 possible PhD positions to start October 2024 focussing on different aspects of stem cell regulation using the Drosophila midgut as a model system.
