I just picked up this copy of the European budget release of The Secret of Monkey Island. The gold embossing is gorgeous in person, and the Dial-A-Pirate code wheel is intact!

I actually think Kelly deserves another shot. He hasn't been able to do anything in a long time. I think his latest project is a book, or something. And also 👇

With very few exceptions, I always recommend theatrical cuts to newcomers.

VS something like Amadeus where I do think all additions but one basically grind the film to a halt near the end.

I'm not a big fan of the Special Edition either. I personally don't find that it messes with the pacing that much, and I do think the new material is good, but I'm just... perfectly fine without it. 🤷‍♂️ It doesn't add much. Yes, some stuff expands motivations, but a lot of it was already there.

I know near the end of his life Friedkin actually started endorsing the "Version You've Never Seen" of The Exorcist, even giving it an official "extended director's cut" title, but I honestly think it makes the movie worse.

"30th Anniversary of Wing Commander 3 is in the works. It'll contain the non-compressed original footage for the FMVs, EA still had the original tapes." Awesome! I just don't get why EA is releasing a 30th-anniversary edition of Wing Commander III when it'll actually be 32 years soon 🤭

Remember Transarctica by Silmarils? I've never played it, but I've loved the atmosphere and art since I first saw it in a magazine in 1993. #retrogaming #dosgaming #amiga #randomgamesaturday

Pajitnov was against militaristic imagery, so the submarine and the jet backgrounds got replaced in the next release.

32 years ago today, we held the launch party for DOOM II at the Limelight in NYC, a former church. Happy birthday to DOOM II, but also, happy birthday to the Super Shotgun, the be-all and end-all of many a monster.

Every time I read that Chris Nolan didn't want to cast Joey Pants in the role of Teddy in "Memento" because he thought it would make audiences naturally distrust the character, I'm a bit taken aback. Because that's what makes that character work.

Watching "Candyman" (1992), and it goes "she always had the hots for Billy 'cause he was like a bad boy." Man, that's Ted Raimi. That man has never been a bad boy not even for a second in his entire life. 😄

Showing them off is an essential part of the "fun" in that process. That's why I decided to not share these projects anymore. AI decomps now drop pretty much daily, and almost always die immediately after because people behind them don't have capabilities to refine and maintain them.

It's appealing because it lets people feel the sense of accomplishment without putting in required effort. As easy as that. And regarding people putting their own priorities before the planet, well, I think you already know the answer to that one.

Yeah, it's kind of funny that a lot of swearing was given to celebrities. Idle in Discworld, Walken in Ripper, Hammil in Gabriel Knight.

The text in GTA is uncensored & full of swearing, BUT I'm fairly certain that's only the case for the original PC version.

It's coming back to me. I think in Atomic edition he says "Yippie ka-yay, mother" and the rest is bleeped out.

Anatoly Shashkin💾 @dosnostalgic.bsky.social · 08/10/2026

He said "shit" and "ass" in Duke 3D, but that's about it. Plus like I said, shareware isn't the same as emergent AAA. Duke is still basically an indie, just with some money behind it.

110

Anatoly Shashkin💾 @dosnostalgic.bsky.social · 08/10/2026

Isn't there literally a *bleeped* line in Duke 3D? Or is it in Atomic Edition? My memory is going.
