We couldn't agree more with @lizzie-harper.bsky.social: botanising with your local group is great fun! It's also a brilliant way to pick up #WildFlowerID tips from friendly fellow plant-lovers in your area. Use the links on this page to find out what's happening near you: bsbi.org/in-your-area...

Today, I led a @dorsetflora.bsky.social field meeting to record plants on some unrecorded chalk grassland in north Dorset. 111 species, 27 Dorset notables. At some points the butterflies stole the show! Thanks @jostephen.bsky.social for your help.

I have been noticing lots of very heavily marked rosettes of Common spotted orchid (Dactylorhiza fuchsii) this spring. Could it be a stress response from last years drought or something else? @bsbibotany.bsky.social @wildflowerhour.bsky.social @dorsetflora.bsky.social

Sometimes when we are botanising we can forget to look up! Which would be a shame as #treeflowers are both fascinating & beautiful! This week’s challenge is to go looking for wild & naturalised trees that are blooming. Share your finds for #WildflowerHour this Sunday 8-9pm!

My final 6 so of flower for this week (taking me to 25) added some lovely rich colours to my collection - the deep blue of the Wood Forget-me-not was quite stunning. Really looking forward to next week's #wildflowerhour challenge. #thewinter10

What fun to take part in the #NewYearPlantHunt again. Keen to see how my walks this year compare to my finds last year. For Day 1, I walked my local loop - 14 species found in flower today. Such a lovely walk along the Fleet with plenty to enjoy including a bonus Little Egret in one of the channels.
A few of the 14 species found in flower today at Tidmoor Point, Weymouth.

Ivy, Yarrow, Common Field Speedwell, Petty Spurge, Mayweed sp, Wild Carrot, Gorse, Daisy, Groundsel, Annual Meadow Grass, Smooth Sow-thistle.

Also, as a bonus - a Little Egret seen in one of the channels.

Not long now until our 15th #NewYearPlantHunt! From 1 - 4 January, let's head out and see how many wild or naturalised plants we can find in bloom. Resources to help us: bsbi.org/take-part/ac... The data we collect will deepen our understanding of how our plants are responding to a changing climate.

Cheating slightly for this week's #Fruits challenge... I attended a brilliant walk with @dorsetflora.bsky.social which tuned me in to looking more closely at Clovers. Well, my new favourite is Strawberry Clover so thought I'd share, as I just love these little spiky orbs. #wildflowerhour
