@beelzebarb.bsky.social Canning peach habanero hot sauce today and making damn good time of it. The local orchard peaches are fabulous. Checked the pH so I don’t kill myself 👍🏻

A pot of simmering sliced peaches, orange bell pepper, and an entire metric mess of habaneros

Every large pot I have is in use, the two biggest ones are sanitizing jars, the smaller stockpot has the peaches and peppers (chunky in the image, I have since puréed them), and the smallest is sanitizing the lids and rings

However, I am happy with how it turned out.

Empty closet with hardwood floors and a damn good paint job if I do say so myself. White background and light grey abstract pattern over the top. It was a right bitch to get that done

We have a similar set up and have installed a hinged bar to prop the lid open on hot days (while supervised as it’s now accessible to predators). Helps cool the coop a bit. Also why are my chickens broody on the hottest days?

Here are the before pictures. It was a 1990s gold finish lamp that didn’t throw off any light, a dingy cream on the walls, and the random board down the center of the closet because someone was too lazy/cheap to fix the floor when they moved the walls

The before picture for that dingy closet with the stupid floor

These two definitely make me happy

Phryne and jack from Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries. Because 1929 fashion is well used in this show, Phryne is wearing what looks like a leopard print cloche hat, and a white furred collar long felt coat. She has some damn striking red lipstick on. Jack is in his usual warm grey overcoat and a navyish three piece suit with a burgundy tie

I also had a playdate last night. My neighbor’s young chicken jumped the fence and hung out with my girls. I think she may have broken the broody out of my two hens. She insisted on snuggling and they didn’t know what to do. This AM they are off the nests even though we gave the baby back last night

Black and white security camera image inside a chicken coop. There are two roosting bars, one is totally empty, there are five chickens on the other. The young chicken in question (who is nearly grown) has snuggled underneath another hen, who looks very confused at the turn of events. Not pictured but happened later: the young one tried to fully crawl under her and knocked her off the roost, at which point mama was done with the snuggles. Then young chicken tried it with the next hen on the roost, who seemed to be more tolerant. At this point our neighbors got home and we grabbed her to put her back in her own coop.

This old man just turned 15 this month. Last week I found a suspicious lump on his face/neck. Incredibly grateful that it turned out to be a benign cyst. Never had a cat live beyond 15 and he’s already living with reduced kidney function so I will love the shit out of him a little while longer

Up until a couple of years ago, this was the post-dinner activity for us. My aunt and uncle have since retired from draft horses but this was so much fun. Of course it was less fun when it was -20. Yay MN winters! We’d pull kids on sleds and adults on skis behind the sleigh if they wanted a go.
