A male Wall Brown spotted in Kilkee, Co Clare this morning. Sadly, an endangered species in Ireland. Once a common sight across the entire Irish countryside, it has completely vanished from inland areas and is now almost exclusively restricted to coastal zones. #Butterfly

A Peacock Butterfly from the weekend. Despite the eyespots, evolved to startle or confuse predators such as birds, it seems the hind wings have been nibbled on. Or maybe opening its wings to reveal the eyespots saved this butterfly from being devoured.
