Progress on some seeds I'm germinating! The Thai restaurant seeds are successful so far with two being germinated, but I'm gonna wait on the commercial red pepper flakes to see if they germinate too. I wanna try similar experiments with other plants too soon here if I can find viable seeds

There are two sandwich bags that are labelled "Red pepper flakes" on the left and "Thai restaurant pepper flakes" on the right, both sitting on my black plastic folding table that I use as a desk in my room. They are both filled with wet paper towels that have been folded in half over a small selection of their respective seeds. I started them both as an experiment to see if I could get them to germinate.

I acquired them from a shaker from an Italian restaurant because I was curious to see if I could germinate them. As of today I've been unsuccessful in having any of them germinate. It's possible that one of them might be, but it's not clear to me through the wet paper towel. One of them *might* be sending out a root possibly, but I may be mistaking the shape of the seed for that as the part of the seed that sends out a root happens to also be the part of the seed with a small point that naturally exists from where it was attached to the placental tissue inside the chilli I believe.

As you can guess from my prior statement, this batch has seen success. At least two of the ten seeds have germinated, and have put out a root and a small faint green stem. One of the seeds has already fully released its first leaves from the seed casing, the other has yet to but will soon I believe. I had acquired these seeds from a small plastic tub that I requested at a local Thai restaurant that I like. I was curious if maybe they'd be Thai bird's eye peppers which I would love to grow. Since these have germinate, and since I know they pack the little containers themselves, I have a theory that they crush up dried peppers that they get in bulk and use those rather than purchasing pre made chilli flakes. I'm hoping that because of that, if true, then I may have seeds of a pepper used in authentic thai cuisine. At the very least though, I know they probably do use these in their cooking at that restaurant. Only time can tell to identify the variety I'd be growing if I don't accidentally kill the new seedlings before they can get established.

I figured out that if you measure the radius of your pie, you can offset each slice by one radius from the last and wind up with decently proportioned sixths, you can also offset by two radii to make thirds if you try not to cut all the way through the pie I suppose

I've gotten to the point where the melinda's bhut jolokia (ghost pepper) hot sauce is within my spice tolerance but the only spicier sauce in my fridge now is the tabasco scorpion pepper sauce 😨, that's a jump from 1 million to 2 million scoville heat units 😩

Might as well show my chilli peppers :), I grew them from seeds from some "chile japones" I bought at walmart from the brand "la fiesta"

A chilli pepper plant, a long stalk with singular teardrop shaped leaves radiating from it, it's a dark green color. A bunch of chillies are forming on the very top of the plant, pointing upwards to the sky, approaching their final size of about an inch to two inches, and are a similar but slightly lighter color than the leaves themselves. Some of the chillies have the dried up remains of the flower still sitting loosely attached to the tips of them. They're bunched up very close together and are fairly shiny. When the plant still had flowers they were white petalled and had 6 tear shaped petals similar to the shape of the leaves. A fun fact, chilli pepper flowers can self pollinate due to having both stamens and pistils. I do kinda worry about if the peppers are going to be high in arsenic, cobalt, and uranium because the ground here and our water contain high levels of that due to the geologic history of this area. I may send some samples to be tested but I'll probably still try one of my peppers once it ripens to see how spicy it is, and to reward myself for my labor. Container gardening chilli peppers in Arizona seems to work very well. I grew these in a substrate of the partially decayed leaf litter in my backyard along with the dirt underneath and it worked quite well, a cardboard box served as the planter after I cut out the bottom so the roots could grow down into the soil underneath as well.

It felt wrong harvesting my pumpkin before the stem fully browned and dried out but I believe I'd be risking losing the entire fruit to rot if I left it any longer on the vine, so I harvested it. I still have another plant with a pumpkin still growing on it as a backup tho

A withered and dead pumpkin vine with dried up shriveling leaves and maybe some rot on it? It's not looking healthy at all which is why I harvested at this time. Every other sign that the pumpkin was ready to harvest was already reached so I'm just hoping I made the right call.

My pumpkin, small, bright orange, with a faded green stem. It's sitting on top of a workbench next to a terracotta pot and a mug and a plastic bag that's wrapped around the root ball of some peppers I have yet to transplant. Its a very round pumpkin and with a matte finish, overall looks ready to harvest besides the stem being less mature than I'd like.

I was watching this video about spice tolerance and such and I think that one of the points made is pretty accurate. Of the reasons for why people like eating spicy food, one of them is sensation seeking, and I think that's what I do. I like the tingle, the warmth, the buzz you get from a spicy dish
