From the same newsletter. Proof that even the worst people can occasionally be completely right. Ray Mears is much better than the rapist baptising Grylls.
Tales of Barton suddenly losing his temper at the flick of a switch are legion in football. Andy Carroll
recently described a way he liked to wind up Barton when they were teammates at Newcastle.
Barton was a massive fan of
survivalist Ray Mears (and even used to set rabbit traps at the training ground) • So when his team mates wanted to get him going, they'd start telling him how much better Bear Grylls was than his hero. Cue Barton ranting on at them for hours about how Mears was the boss and
they were all idiots. A fun, if dangerous, game.

Friends here will be aware of Jude’s health issues. Anyway, we’re having a lunch to thank our friends who fed / looked after him while we were in Germany cycling. Clearly this is an excellent opportunity for me to buy a terrine mould…

I trust you are well. I'm aware that this is not your particular department but since you're my MP I would like to register my concern at the seemingly incredibly light touch demonstrated by the police around the masked far right demonstrations in Dover.

Hope not hate have identified the people involved and it's clear that they see this as a warning of further violence. (https://hopenothate.org.uk/2026/09/05/patriot-platforms-masked-members-march-on-dover/)

We have seen incredibly punitive sentencing towards environmental groups planning disruptive protests on British roads, we have seen the most ridiculously non-violent anti-genocide protesters summarily arrested on terrorism charges, and yet not a single arrest was made in Dover.

I'm sure you can see how this is somewhat concerning.

Clearly ‘Amontillado blend’ is still accepted terminology as I doubt the wine society are bending the rules (am going for a hike with a friend who’s one of their buyers on Sunday so I’ll ask). Looks like Morrisons have mislabelled. Have asked my partner to see which bodega it’s from…

Churchy people. I’ve just been at a service at Christ Church in Cheltenham and there’s a really distinctive suspended cross. I asked both chaplains if they knew the story behind it, which neither did. Any ideas? @oldenoughtosay.com
Perspex cross with scratched nail designs and some almost barbera hepworthy thorns? Broader view to the apse.
