Late summer highlights, now the heatwaves have ended + back-to-school is on: a passenger ferry family day trip to Dieppe, the Bowie immersive exhibition near King’s Cross with friends, and a solo day of volunteering for the Ealing Beaver Project at Paradise Fields. Much else awaits this year.

Made it up to the top of Southwick Hill for the sunset, before the week ends. It’s, fortunately, been a holiday of restoration and the tidying up of a few loose ends. And now the summer beckons - it’s going to be a full one. Bring it on.

Have just completed David Byrne’s marvellous ‘How Music Works’, which was mostly hard to put down. In some part, you get the story of Talking Heads, but in other parts, you get how architecture influences how music is made or an insider’s view on the music industry. Highly recommended. #AmReading

Spent y’day on an 8-mile hike around #Knepp estate, one of Britain’s best known examples of #rewilding. Saw the white storks, the deer, & the weather was glorious. As I roamed the place, I was struck by nature’s relationship with time - both fast enough to show abundance & slow enough to show ages.

Turned up at a conference this morning. Happened to be listening to the ‘Ziggy Stardust’ album. Turned my headphones off the minute the album ended, turned my headphones off to see a photo of Bowie on the wall and a note that he’d performed Ziggy in the lecture theatre I was heading to. Serendipity!
Photograph on University of Westminster wall of David Bowie performing during the ‘Serious Moonlight’ tour, flanked with two plaques that recounted the connection between Bowie, the photographer who was a former student and a campus lecture theatre he once performed in.

Despite my general reservations about Generative AI, I had my first exchange with Claude this week. It was both about David Bowie and climate change, but also about the nature of human use of GenAI. ‘Prompting the Alien’ is the result. buff.ly/4i8tCqB
