bosses in your average indie metroidvania will make you learn the specific properties of six attacks coming from a guy who jumps around the entire screen and kills you in 4 hits and then you go back into SotN and it's just some ugly freak standing around and Alucard manhandles him in under a minute

lrt: Iron Keep was actually one of my favorite parts of DS2 because I simply Didn't Die and figuring out how it wanted me to approach each room was a fun little challenge. Helps that the bosses there are free. Runbacks aren't real. Just don't die in the first place, forehead.

lrt: truly no better game to make your first than MoF imo. No complicated extra mechanics. Bombs are simple, getting lives is simple, you don't even gotta worry about graze. Just pure 'get through the danmaku' gameplay. AND!!! You get to meet a lot of lovely characters :)

if I were to speculate even more, it's possible that both of them eventually had a major project outside of SEGA crash and burn because their publisher wasn't giving them all that leeway (not to say NetEase definitely shoulders no blame in Gang of Dragon's case, considering other shit they pulled)

I think the one thing to keep in mind regarding the current talk about SEGA is that historically they're a company that doesn't need one specific person to fuck everything up. they fuck up holistically, as a company-wide ethos. everything good out of them is more or less in spite of that.
