Final 2 photos from last night's @thegoldenratio4.bsky.social book signing. The bookstore @page158books.bsky.social was lovely and the people working there so nice. There were adoptable dogs to visit in an adjoining room. I'm amazed how much larger Guac is in person vs how he looks in photos!

This morning's walk included a Gigi's Critter Vigil™️with an orange kitty under the trailer. It was intense enough that when her mailman friend came by she didn't immediately give up her vigil. I said to him now we'll see which is more important and she eventually made a beeline towards the truck.

Tonight's episode of Gigi's Critter Vigil™️now with added barking. Not sure why Gigi chose tonight to bark repeatedly at this kitty. She's usually silent during vigils. Maybe it was because we saw it walking across a lawn first. Since it was a late walk, I managed to shush her somewhat successfully.

Gigi, a bridle colored staffy-mix dog is shown laying on the street staring at a kitty that is also laying on the street. She watched it cross a lawn and was excited enough to start walking very fast, considering her usual walking pace is snail-like. Then she actually barked at it, which she doesn't normally do. I tried to keep her quiet since it was a late walk and I didn't want to disturb people too much. The kitty eventually started walking in a different direction and Gigi finally allowed me to get her moving again to finish the walk.

An "I'm melting" edition of Gigi's Critter Vigil™️Got out early-ish to try and beat the heat, but jokes on me because we spent far too much time here staring at the kitty under the trailer. Escaping to the beach tomorrow to avoid triple digit temps at home, so potential sea critter vigils to come.

Gigi a brindle colored staffy-mix dog is shown laying on the street on a very hot July morning staring at the kitty enjoying the shade under the trailer. I was melting from the heat but at least this was a shady spot for her to refuse to move along and continue the walk. Eventually another walker came by with a dog and she started moving again.

Racing the heat advisory edition of Gigi's Critter Vigil™️Different storm drain than Sunday's vigil, but not the one from Wednesday's vigil, which was embarrassing. I remembered to put treats in my pocket today, and her mailman friend who tosses treats drove by. That finally got her moving again.

Gigi, a brindle-colored staffy mix dog is on the street staring into a storm drain. Something is of interest to her and she wants to stay in the spot staring & listening. It was a very hot morning and she needed coaxing to finish the walk before we melted.

Hot Sunday morning storm drain edition of Gigi's Critter Vigil™️This shady spot is always a stopping point and she's given the storm grate attention before, but something must have been in there this morning because she laid down beside it and gave many head tilts. At least it was out of the sun!

Gigi, a brindle-colored staffy mix dog is shown laying on leaves and pine straw staring and listening intently at a storm grate. Some critter must have been in there. At least it was shady on a hot North Carolina morning.

Sunday morning cat lounging in the street edition of Gigi's Critter Vigil™️We'd probably still be out there, but eventually a car drove down the road and scared the cat to go under the truck in the driveway.

Gigi, a brindle colored staffy-mix dog is shown in her protest lay down position staring intently at a cat that is nonchalantly lounging in the street in front of its driveway.

A Mother's Day Eve episode of Gigi's Critter Vigil™️This is the same black kitty that caused a morning vigil last week by sitting in its own driveway. I did get her to move farther away, but she continued her vigil for several more minutes before accepting the kitty wasn't going to come out.

Gigi, a brindle colored staffy-mix dog is shown on her nighttime walk peeking at a black kitty hiding under a car.

Gigi, a brindle colored staffy-mix dog is shown during a nighttime walk using her "laying down in the street protest move" while staring at a black kitty hiding under a car. She did allow herself to be moved a bit farther away, but then assumed the protest position again to continue to keep watch. She eventually gave up and let me get her moving to finish the walk toward home.

A Sunday morning episode of Gigi's Critter Vigil™️The black cat almost blends in with the base of the basketball hoop, but was quickly spotted. Surprisingly, she was somewhat easy to get moving along again after only a few minutes of staring. We didn't have the usual 10min lay down protest strike.

Mother Nature I have a bone to pick with you. It's only April! I know North Carolina is supposed to be warm, but I shouldn't have to already be carrying water for morning walkies this early in the year! ☀️🕶️🥵🫗

Gigi, a brindle colored staffy-mix dog sits on shady pavement with a water bottle in front of her. It's only April but is already hot enough that water breaks are offered during her morning walkies. She is staring intently at the woman across the street watering her flowers. She is such a lookie-loo and walks take forever because she is constantly stopping and staring at ALL THE THINGS.

Yesterday's episode of Gigi's Critter Vigil™️ was brought to you by the Virginia Arboretum's Blandy Farm. She can't believe the squirrel that was having so much fun on the ground is staying up in the tree out of reach. It looks like fall in the photo, but lots of things were budding and blooming.

Maybe it's just the miscreants way of asking for more photos of other dogs who have also walked on white paint. I'll go first.

Gigi, a brindle colored staffy-mix dog is shown laying on the road during her evening walk. She has red glowing collar on and you can see that 3 of her paws have white toes. She is staring intently at some critter, probably a cat, and she regularly pulls this laying down move when she doesn't want me to move her along to continue the walk.

Tonight's episode of "Gigi's Critter Vigil™️" was brought to you buy the letters W and C. The white cat walked out from under a car and then casually laid in the driveway without a care in the world. A shorter vigil involving 2 rabbits munching on clover was held later in the walk.

Gigi a brindle colored staff-mix dog is laying in the street during her evening walk. She is refusing to get moving again because she is intently staring at a totally unbothered white cat lounging in a driveway.

C'mon Mom! I heard rustling in the underbrush and saw a possum cross the road. Just try and move me along...I don't think so! Tonight's critter vigil was a little longer than yesterday's. I came prepared with treats this time, but they weren't much help.

A brindle staffy-mix dog named Gigi, with a red light-up collar is laying on the road during her nighttime walk. It's important for her to stare longingly back at the spot that a dodgy possum crossed the road. Laying down ensures that efforts to try and get her walking towards home are a mostly futile endeavor.

Had a sit down strike on Gigi's walk last night. She was determined to watch the bush a cat went under. 53lbs of insistent dog is a challenge to get walking again. She's sitting here, but after some attempts to move her along, she laid flat. I let her be for about 10min then she was willing to go.

Gigi wants to know if the dead grass blends too much with her brindle coat. She's worried there isn't enough contrast for the crown of blades on her head to really pop. So. Much. Dead. Grass.

I blame Kathy (in a good way, not a bad way) for my stop at Publix on the way to the beach to get this. It is just me and Gigi this weekend. Husband is over in Raleigh at a concert. So the big question is will I eat all of it or take some back with me?

Gigi enjoyed her first time at the beach with us. She didn't get in the water, but got somewhat close and watched the waves for a while. She rolled on her back in the sand a few times, and you can see her sandy head here. I did keep her from rolling in some stinky seaweed, which disappointed her.

Introducing Gigi! We've been dogless since sadly losing Jasper to an emergency medical situation nearly a year ago. She is an open-ended dogsitting guest. Long messy story but we may have her two weeks or two months. She is very sweet & we are getting to know her. Our first time having a pitty mix.

The biscotti have more of a flat top rather than a dome. Pan is 2 inches deep. The pan instructions said for recipes calling for 2-2.5 cups of flour, but I think it could definitely hold a larger recipe. I cut these way too thin because I'm trying to stretch the quantity for gift bags.

Baking sheet showing cut biscotti after the second baking. They were cut too thin but I think on the margin of acceptable. I'll probably cut second batch this thin too, even though it was a bit of pain to separate and stand them upright for second baking and they wanted to fall apart. Lessons were learned.

Hershey's cinnamon chips. Not at every grocery store. I can find them reliably at wally world, which pains me, but it's been hit or miss at other grocers. They are smaller than standard chips but not as small as mini sized.

@jencoleslaw.bsky.social Sometime in the past year I think we discussed my biscotti pan. I bought it intending to use it for 2023 baking and I didn't. I used it this morning for the first time. Here it is before the cutting & second baking. New recipe too - failure risks all around for this endeavor

Biscotti log on cutting board waiting to be sliced for the 2nd baking. It shows the empty biscotti pan, which was used for the 1st baking, beside the cutting board. I tried a new recipe for the base dough and chose cinnamon and cinnamon chips from the recommended ideas for add-ins. It's my first time using this pan.
