And Doc Savage's Fortress was there from the start...

Doc Savage said slowly: "I was far away when my father died."

He did not explain where he had been, did not mention his "Fortress of Solitude," his rendezvous built on a rocky island deep in the arctic regions. He had been there.

It was to this spot that Doc retired periodically to brush up on the newest developments in science, psychology, medicine, engineering. This was the secret of his universal knowledge, for his periods of concentration there were long and intense.

The Fortress of Solitude had been his father's recommendation. And no one on earth knew the location of the retreat. Once there, nothing could interrupt Doc's studies and experiments.

You and many others. As far as comics: author @davallone.bsky.social made her an important part of his Ring of Fire (four Dynamite issues with @daveacosta.bsky.social ) and there was the Pat Savage one-shot in 1992. I think she'd helm a very interesting noir comic today.

Spider-man thought Doc Savage hadn't figured out she was the villain because he postulated men in Doc's time believed women were "demure little things." It wasn't true. Doc had dealt with female villains in the pulps. And there were a couple of clues that Doc suspected her...

True, Dent effectively lived on what he received for that one 50,000-word novel a month he wrote for Street & Smith. Eventually he tried his hand at an aerial photography business as he realized the pulps were on the way out & he couldn't sell to the slicks. Here's his card from his first novel:

First, my condolences for watching that film. For good reason, a lot of modern fans have a big issue with Doc Savage's Crime College & the operations. It isn't a lobotomy, but a removal of the "crime gland" & a retraining of the criminals. Yes, I hear it, but it was a theory of the day.
