I'm with you on all of that. My DAW is free (Sonar) and a good chunk of the software tools I use are cheap or free. I'm glad things like that Leviasynth exist, but they can exist for someone else for now lol.

I adore romance novels because of how painfully earnest and vulnerable they are, and that makes them the LAST place to use AI-generated text. All art should be human art. Even "formulaic fiction" has something meaningful to offer. Joyce can fuck off with this.

I completely agree with you, and I think that's the thesis I was trying to arrive at: there are people who view "furry music" as a genre identifier who then become upset/disillusioned when most of it is not to their liking.

I also don't know if there's a solution to this or what it would be. I just know that having an audience of people who only listen because you share community with them feels really hollow as a creator, and it's why I usually eschew community markers when I release stuff.

"Fan Service creates Fan Entitlement" is arguably the most succinct way to put this. The more you pander to an audience the more that audience feels that you owe them. I'm arguably a little jaded since I came from the pony fandom and once I stopped putting pony thumbnails on stuff, many people left

This is why I think there's this weird prevalence of people who say things like "furry music sucks;" it's not because of the artistry/variety of what's being released (or alleged lack thereof) it's that those listeners essentially feel "conned" by this imaginary pact nobody actually signed.

This is probably why I've always kind of avoided hitching myself to a label like "furry musician" or "brony musician" (back when) or "<whatever> musician" because it incurs this kind of community debt to that identity: that you owe any listener who shares that label a good time.

For example. I've spent a lot of time combing through OP's playlists of the "best" furry music, and only a small portion of it really speaks to me but... that's also very normal? I'm sure if you took a cross-section of any amount of music from anywhere, the same like/dislike ratio would prevail.

... and ultimately the end-result of how the community should deal with them doesn't really change since impact matters more than intent. It doesn't matter, for example, if a dramatic smear campaign is coming from a place of unexamined pain or not, the harm caused outweighs the motive.

At the risk of sounding a bit glib, I'll invoke: "A lie is most convincingly told between two truths." I think where we differ is that I do believe that something bad happened to them (like so many bullies and abusers) but they aren't interested in the introspection necessary to heal.

I think that's the move. In fairness tho it's been a long time since I've cooked like this. I usually prefer to use alcohol instead of vinegar to break down meat as it slow cooks. 🥴

Hypervigilance, also, is not exclusively a response to abuse or trauma. There are other factors that can lead someone to behave that way. As someone who has (also) had to contend with CPTSD his whole life this is just the connective tissue that I see from afar.

The folks that I've seen behaving like this (and in fairness it's not many) lean on a "someone used <feral/abdl/etc> art to groom me; I'm a victim" as their story. Now if that's not actually a common thread here then you're absolutely right. Trauma doesn't breed abusers but they're often correlated
