Some posts: “Jew, get the fuck out of my country” “Jew pig, get the fuck out of Lower Merion” “@[Victim] Eliminate the jewish cockroaches. Exterminate the jewish state. You will have nowhere to go. Your family has no future in the US. Give it another 10 years, and you shall see a true holocaust.”

Biden called a pro Trump comedian’s rhetoric “garbage“ in 2024 and there was like a week of controversy-focused coverage about it

They argue that the effects don’t really reflect a pro-regime “rally” but the fact that the Iranian regime could delegitimize the protests as foreign-backed to communities after they were hit — using a text analysis to show the broad use of this framing

New NBER working paper by Mehmood, Prokhorskoy, and Wantchekon tests exactly how the U.S.-Israeli intervention in Iran this year impacted Iranian protest activity Shows that U.S.-Israeli airstrikes clearly ⬇️ opposition protest and ⬆️ pro-regime mobilization at the local (county) level in Iran

OK it’s probably not even worth my time, but now I kind of have to know: What is the case that Obama should *possibly* be viewed as “complicit in the Gaza genocide” — something that started 7 years after he left office and which he publicly opposed?

They find weaker effects on attitudes toward Jews and antisemitism Some ⬆️ in feeling thermometer but it’s short term, and ⬇️ in stereotypes but only if you weren’t already warm toward Jews and its short term as well

Their premise is that the USHMM has both universal messages about democracy, appeasement, and atrocity prevention — and specific ones about Jews and antisemitism They find pretty solid effects on the former, especially opposition to appeasement and desire to prevent atrocities. “Never again” landed

Does visiting a major Holocaust museum impact your political views? New study in JOP by @laiabalcells.bsky.social et al uses a field experiment at the US Holocaust Memorial Museum to see They find a visit: -stokes more “never again” universalist views -has limited and fleeting fx on antisemitism

Interesting echoes of our own politics in Germany A prominent antisemitism researcher in Germany calls out the debate over antisemitism surrounding the ascent of the Left Party/Die Linke in Berlin as plagued by efforts to instrumentalize the issue for political gain

Once the war began Al-Saadi posted on Telegram appearing to activate sleeper cells abroad And HAYI started to claim credit for European attacks on Telegram -the first was a firebombing of a Belgian synagogue on 3/9. On 3/11 footage of the attack appeared on HAYI’s Telegram with its logo (circled)

Dan Silverman @dmsilverman.bsky.social · 22/09/2026
After the Iran war started, al-Saadi and others created a new pro-Iranian Shi’a militant group called HAYI (Harakat Ashab al-Yamin al-Islamiya) This document makes clear that HAYI is a component of Kataib Hezbollah, as many analysts thought given the overlap in their logos, Telegram ecosystems, etc

Dan Silverman @dmsilverman.bsky.social · 22/09/2026
The context is that Al-Saadi is a top member of Kataib Hezbollah (KH), one of the major pro-Iranian militias in Iraq He was close to Qassem Soleimani and Iraqi “resistance axis” leaders (Abu Mahdi al Muhandis, etc.) And he appears to have been posting about revenge ever since Soleimani’s killing

So my effort to dig into this led me to read the full indictment of Mohammed Baqer Saad Dawood Al-Saadi — the Iraqi “resistance axis“ leader captured by the U.S. in May It really deserved more attention. There’s good evidence he coordinated a number of terror attacks in the West since the war began

MBS has 2 options: 1) Normalize with Israel and get the “Iron Dome,” risking popular revolt 2) Cave to Iran, which likely means kicking out your U.S. protector and accepting Houthi rule on your border

The bar is on the floor here since the famous 1a lawyers have only made a few peeps through so much of Trump 2.0‘s assault on freedom of speech but Turley did at least criticize the move on X Judging by the ratio and replies I saw, he got a lot of unhappy comments too

One more piece I’d flag is the leaders in this system Another recent impressive study suggests that online white nationalist influencers are key to pushing these ideas forward — relying especially on gendered appeals doi.org/10.1086/740972

It’s young (white) men. New study in @nature.com by @jatucker.bsky.social et al looks at the predictors of white nationalist attitudes across an array of survey data. 🔑 Findings: —5% of white adults hold such views —13.5% of white men age 18-29 —Political ideology matters but it’s not just that

Also found this snippet kind of funny, where Kraft says he'd be happy to sit down with Macklemore and hash out their views on all of this. I...do not think that'd go very well

Do ceasefires in armed conflicts actually reduce civilian killings? New study in JPR shows that the answer is yes, but primarily for combatants backed by liberal democracies The effect also seems to depend on the amount of international attention when the ceasefire is signed

I guess, just aside from this, I’m not really sure where things stand with Kanye now? Obviously his antisemitism was quite egregious and sustained. But he also does seem to have made a more serious apology, disavowal, and turn toward the beginnings of repentance finally? How are folks viewing this?

Interesting snippet from a book I’m reading Campaign rhetoric from southern populists trying to mobilize working class white and black voters in the late 19th Century. Sound familiar?

Some good points by an Iraqi friend and collaborator of mine Why hasn’t Trump responded to this Houthi onslaught? Think about it. And are the Houthis and Iran aware of this electoral constraint? You have to think they are…

A reminder that — if you run into the claims that 9/11 didn’t lastingly change our politics and we would have gotten Trumpism anyway — we have serious research linking local fatalities in the post-9/11 wars to Parler activity in the run up to January 6th.

1) Well I’m talking about the assertions of a deep Iraqi relationship with Al Qaeda and some of the related claims (Mohammed Atta meeting, serious AQ training, etc.) here 2) That’s simply not what the 2008 Senate Intel Committee report finds. It finds that the IC didn’t hold many of those views

It was just ”regime change!” —> nope Every time I think about it, it reminds me of Trump trying to hit a golf shot and calling out “hole in one!” only to have it go right into the drink. Like, what an incredible declared intentions-reality gap

And that’s like only a tiny greatest hits slice of the bigotry and support for violence Musk has spewed and amplified in recent years Dude has just been out there endorsing quotes from the Turner Diaries under images of people pointing guns at the camera I mean, this stuff is still up there!
0151
Dan Silverman @dmsilverman.bsky.social · 04/09/2026
And if the media needs a refresher on Musk’s extremism: -endorsed a post saying Jews push hatred of white people -did a fascist salute, then made Nazi puns about it on X -said shooting migrants is “based” -told AfD rally there’s “too much focus on past guilt” in Germany -encouraged UK civil war
