The people who bear the brunt of antisemitism are the Jews. Say what they said about literally any other bigotry and see how it looks.

Thing is, the prior hurt was desperate optimism. Understandable but still, more hope than actual. Talarico is winning right now. Beto was never winning. He was close enough for people to let themselves believe, but he was never within even 2 points of being tbe frontrunner.

How are you getting lumped in? If other people's trauma makes you feel defensive, dude, seek therapy, seriously.

Lawyers get some form of "testimony isn't real evidence!" like 20 times a year in online discussions. Meanwhile, convictions like Caleb Flynn are won on the stand every day. Like, most convictions. No idea where this myth that you nees video if something for it to have happened came from.

Agree. Honestly, we know the truth. They didn't hide it. And it's not about reconciliation. It's accountability, criminal and civil, period. Call it consequences. You touched the stove and thought because the burn was delayed it wasn't hot, but we're coming for that hand.

"It's just a joke!" "How?" "*inanearglebargle* WOKE!" "Seems kinda creepy to me, but okay." You don't have to turn it into a TEDTalk. In fact, don't. But people don't like conflict and inserting even a little friction like this can have powerful effects.

I think folks want it to be this massive Rocky 4 moment of "If I can change, you can change", and true, it's rarely that. But there are a whole host of outcomes and responses that are still useful, even defensiveness.

This works, btw. It's actually pretty incredible and heady just how powerful it is in practice. Every time I've done it the impact is pretty memorable.

Nope. For a whole bunch of reasons, but the upshot is no, you can't sue the government under a civil RICO theory period, much less for purging a citizen from a voter roll or something.

D.M. Schmeyer @dmschmeyer.bsky.social · 27/09/2026
There's a lot of tortious shit that seems to be going down, but trafficking torts would be a bit of a stretch, though depending on some plausible facts and the particular plaintiff I could see it. It's not really civil RICO, though.

I think its not your responsibility to "convert people" if you don't want it to be. Honey and salt and whatever, but that's your problem literally to the extent you want it to be. What's in other's hearts is their burden and issue. And being honest and emotional still reaches the open minded.

I was told more than once that my life before 25 more or less disqualified me from being an attorney. Too blue collar and steange, apparently.

But that'd be writing for free, Denys, for a potentially limited audience who may or may not like what I write! That'd require *shiver* bravery! Also I am self-aware

These people are talking shit about writing for money while literally debasing themselves with takes like this for engagement and, ostensibly, money. Hypocrisy.

...the acknowledgements thing can't be real, right? What deranged people review the *acknowledgements*. "0/10, didn't effusively thank her mother, which is a manifest betrayal of 4th wave feminism and my 5th-grade level understanding of Marx or some shit"

People getting offered good money to write books for money are by and large writing said books for said money, folks, sorry to blow your mind.

But beyond lawyer pedantry, the tie-in, industry standard is advances are non-refundable, plenty of books do or don't earn out, and I'm a "money in my pocket today beats a chance at money in my pocket tomorrow" kind of guy as a rule.

It did not become readily apparent how big, in full, until the damn New York Times wrote about it, but, yeah, lot of significant stuff got rolling. But I remember the two novels I was reading and always will: Middlegame and then Into the Drowning Deep, which I also love and frequently gift.

Everybody should. It's a great long novel paced like a novella and I read it until 5 am to finish it in one sitting when I hate work at 7 am the next day because I wasn't gonna just do a whole shift at the office not knowing what happened to Rodger and Dodger. I'm disciplined but I'm human.

I have a tool I use that I programmed that applies a point value to a player based on history and projection and I use it to help consider and make offers for trades. And I enjoy fantasy sports just fine?
