NASHVILLE, TN (August 25, 2026) – Global icon and humanitarian, Dolly Parton, known to the world as a beloved singer, songwriter, philanthropist, actress, playwright, and author died peacefully today in Nashville, Tennessee. She was 80 years old.

 

Dolly is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 59 years Carl Thomas Dean (1942 – 2025), her mother Avie Lee Caroline Owens (1923 – 2003), and father, Robert Lee Parton, Sr. (1921 – 2000). 

 

A rhinestone life that shone bright enough for the world to see, Dolly will forever stand as an inspiration not only through her timeless music and prolific songwriting, but also her wit, warmth, and kindness that made us all feel like family. Dolly Parton’s legacy is one of love, compassion, and resilience. With a seven-decade career, she inspired multiple generations of artists and fans with her music and an unwavering commitment to making the world a better place. Her songs will continue to resonate with people of all ages, and her philanthropic work will have a lasting impact.

 

At Dolly’s request, a small, private service will be held for immediate family. Dolly’s fans and friends from around the world are encouraged to pay tribute to Dolly on social media by tagging @DollyParton or by leaving a message at www.dollyparton.com.

I have a headache from staring at screens all day. I'm mentally exhausted. Some of us were up all night, trying to push out the latest updates. But that is NOTHING compared to the historic flooding that has affected so many residents & friends. The loss is devastating. I am so, so sorry.

.As we see the crest on the White River nearing Noblesville, Nora,
and Ravenswood, bringing major flooding, here are the very latest
thoughts.

Noblesville is now predicted to EXCEED THE PREVIOUS RECORD FLOOD of
23.80 feet, set on March 25, 1913, by reaching 24.5 feet between 12
AM and 2 AM tonight.  This height typically causes numerous
evacuations to roads, businesses, and homes.

Nora is expected to reach 20.50 feet early Saturday morning, which
would be the second highest historic crest on record, exceeding the
flood of January 1, 1991.  A height of 20 feet brings water near
residential areas in Shore Acres, Williams Creek Cutoff east of
Marott Park, and on the river side of Union Chapel Road.

Ravenswood is predicted to reach 12.6 feet, which would tie for
fourth place in the list of highest historic crests.  This height
was reached on June 30, 1957.  A height of 12.5 feet historically
has involved evacuations of residents in Ravenswood west of
Crittenden Avenue.

* WHAT...Minor flooding is occurring and major flooding is forecast.
This approaches the flood of record.

* WHERE...White River near Nora.

* WHEN...Until Tuesday morning.

north of White River. Much of Ravenswood, Mystic Bay, and areas on
both sides of Keystone Avenue south of East 80th Street are
flooded by three feet of water. Flood waters nearing residential
areas in Shore Acres, Williams Creek Cutoff east of Marott Park,
and on the river side of Union Chapel Road. Extensive flooding of
the river side of the flood protection in the vicinity of the
Indianapolis Art Center and Edgewater Apartments. Flood waters
nearing Arden Drive.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- At 6:00 PM EDT Friday the stage was 15.8 feet.
- Recent Activity...The maximum river stage in the 24 hours
ending at 6:00 PM EDT Friday was 15.8 feet.

One of the dumbest things Anderson did was put their entire shopping area along Scatterfield Rd in the White River Valley, and then surrounded it by a ton of impervious surface lots. You can see the location of Ollie’s marked on the map. See flood photo below.

Also from NWS Indianapolis: "To put Wednesday's flooding into perspective, our office had only issued 10 'Considerable' Flash Flood Warnings in total since NWS introduced the tag in 2019. Yesterday, we issued 14. It was also the first time our office issued a Flash Flood Emergency, with 3 issued."
