Rainfall intensity matters as much as how much rain falls. New in Nature: Corey Lesk and I show that daily-scale concentration of precipitation dries the land over the long-run, an effect as strong as total precipitation is climatological wetting. Paper here: www.nature.com/articles/s41...

The latest European Grassland Butterfly Indicator is out. It shows that grassland butterflies have declined by 47% since 1991, indicating a huge loss of grassland biodiversity. We had a really interesting talk by Mathias Rotach from @uniinnsbruck.bsky.social here at @wegenercenter.bsky.social. He showed us the complexity in modeling the mountain boundary layer, and that it is still a long way to robustly represent climate change in local mountain valleys.

Just got mine. Totally expected, but it still sucks. Probably the most for all the work that so many of us put in on behalf of US taxpayers that is now wasted and will never come to fruition.
The U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) has undertaken a review of its award portfolio. Each award was carefully and individually reviewed, and the agency has determined that termination of certain awards is necessary because they are not in alignment with current NSF priorites.

Effective immediately, the following are terminated:

NSF is issuing this termination to protect the interests of the government pursuant to NSF Grant General Conditions (GC-1) term and condition entitled 'Termination and Enforcement,' on the basis that they no longer effectuate the program goals or agency priorities. This is the final agency decision and not subject to appeal.

Jenseits der im Artikel geäußerten Kritik an Klöckner sollte die Frage legitim sein, ob ein Tempolimit nicht einen kleinen aber relevanten Beitrag zur Bewahrung der Schöpfung leisten kann, dieses Thema also auch aus Klöckners Sicht eines für die Kirche sein könnte.

I have complained about both of my alma maters frequently so I want to share praise where praise is due. I'm proud of Harvard for finding their backbone. It's a big deal because everyone else looks to them. And godspeed to them in fighting this shakedown bullshit from the Trump administration.
