probably in the abstract the Trump campaign doesn't want the last week of the campaign to be a rolling series of Trumpers going on insanely racist tirades on live TV. but that is who they are, every last one of them

Holy shit this whole editorial is incredible, but especially this section.
Trump has for years maintained a discourse of contempt and misinformation against the island that reveals an obsession and disdain for a people who do not have the power of the vote to defend themselves, since the three million American citizens who live in Puerto Rico cannot vote in the presidential elections. However, the other five million who live in the United States, whom they also labeled as trash, can vote. Let’s not forget the paper towels he threw at us while we suffered without electricity for months and let’s not forget that the funds did not arrive because Trump -through the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development- told them to stop because he considered Puerto Ricans “bums who live begging.”

It is cowardly to insult those who cannot defend themselves. At Sunday’s event they not only insulted Puerto Ricans. They also insulted Latinos, blacks and women. An angry mob shouted prostitute at the Democratic Party’s presidential candidate. They also spat in front of a group of her supporters. Many were Latinos, who applauded, not understanding the consequences. One day it will be your turn.

This is the one I can’t stand. www.newyorker.com/magazine/201...
The part of the book that caused the most controversy concerns Trump's divorce from his first wife, Ivana. Hurt obtained a copy of her sworn divorce deposition, from 1990, in which she stated that, the previous year, her husband had raped her in a fit of rage.
In Hurt's account, Trump was furious that a "scalp reduction" operation he'd undergone to eliminate a bald spot had been unexpectedly painful. Ivana had recommended the plastic surgeon. In retaliation, Hurt wrote, Trump yanked out a handful of his wife's hair, and then forced himself on her sexually.
Afterward, according to the book, she spent the night locked in a bedroom, crying; in the morning, Trump asked her, "with menacing casualness, 'Does it hurt?" Trump has denied both the rape allegation and the suggestion that he had a scalp-reduction procedure. Hurt said that the incident, which is detailed in Ivana's deposition, was confirmed by two of her friends.

For some context, Vancouver is sometimes known as Vantucky for its reputation as an Old South wannabe, complete with white supremacists, Nazis and Tea Party morons. The desperation some people have over this election is going to lead to worse, I feel. Please check on your ballots.

The massive decline in healthcare in the U.S. really scares me.

I really want to raise a big red flag about a new kind of privatized healthcare I see emerging (in Oregon, but elsewhere likely) that could be scammy as hell. More and more ppl can't access major providers so go to "urgent care" or to these cash-only setups that only offer NPs instead of MDs.

I recently reposted an image of two clothed women about to kiss. Not kissing, but about to. This was labeled as 'adult content.' Photos of men and women kissing and more proliferate and there are no labels.

I grew up with photos like the one of a young girl covered in napalm and screaming. In high school, they showed us footage of Holocaust victims. My children play video games where they can shoot others into a bloody mush. The only thing being protected here is Israel's credibility.

The corrupt bargain Trump and Musk struck will, among other things, reward Musk financially for way overpricing Twitter and ruining the platform. We shouldn't let him turn the acquisition into a loss-leader by plunging the U.S. into fascism. www.offmessage.net/p/musk-dont-...

If you haven't, I strongly encourage everyone to be calling their senators and congresspeople and even leave messages with the White House switchboard that there must be an arms embargo against Israel. You can find who your representatives are and how to contact them at congress.gov and senate.gov.

Menopause is weird: my ears itch and occasionally, bleed. Not much, mind you, just a spot or two, and no pain, but then I was told hot flashes would just come and go quickly and that was such a lie.

I can't believe the kids are still talking about the movie today. We saw The Matrix last night (their first time) and they were so blow away and now in love with all of it. I'm a little worried they're going to want to see the sequels and I'd hate to see that light go out.

The most compelling part of this article is the simple fact that if a launch were attempted and it failed (as many still do), it would be an environmental catastrophe over the whole planet. Abandon AI and focus on technologies that safely break down plastics and other waste.

If you can buy a nuclear reactor to power your pet project that has no value to anyone and is, in fact, heavily derided for its uselessness, you may have reached the peak of social irresponsibility. Sadly our government is no longer in the business of protecting its people.

It didn't take long for this to reach a new level of offensive absurdity. My post below, asking why an innocent photo of two people kissing was labeled "adult content" has been labeled "sexually suggestive." @bsky.app
This is the screen shot from my post showing the "labels on your content" showing this as "sexually suggestive" and offering the option to appeal. There also seems to be to different moderation services: one called Bluesky Moderation and the other moderation.bsky. Same?

This never seems to end. Censoring us for existing never ends. Why is the image of two women about to kiss (no nudity, nothing graphic) labeled as Adult Content? Why did it need a label at all? @bsky.app?
This is a skeet by The Daily Tism that shows a photo of two women, one with short shaved hair and arm tattoos and the other with long hair in a tank top, holding one another, against a doorway, about to kiss.

I was born in 1970 too. I grew up with a lot of music, wanted to be a composer, but being a girl with no money or connections made it impossible. There's more to the story, but I gave up, the business is so ugly. So many work very hard though and someone like Shor undermines all of it.
