It took me a long time to find the sweet spot on the continuum between punk and metal. I don't really like "pure" versions of either but blended together in the perfect ratio hits like no other

Opeth definitely gets less interesting as you get into the 2000s. Their sound is like a less bloated Dream Theater with some King Crimson mixed in. That said, songwriting quality is pretty consistently good. They rely on songwriting rather than virtuosity, which is smart.

🎧 Opeth - My Arms, Your Hearse Everything Opeth was doing in the 90s really came together on this album. The only metal band I can think of that can do acoustic sections without it sounding like a metal band doing acoustic sections. open.spotify.com/album/2fukE8...

I started listening to Opeth and went straight to the remasters of the 90s albums instead of original mixes. Remasters can be problematic, but 80s-90s metal mixing/mastering was trash. Sound engineers were defaulting to rock settings and it just didn't work. Metal didn't sound good until like 2004

I was in SF recently and a Turkish Lyft driver told me he had to close his restaurant 6 months ago because the rent doubled. He said that before it closed, Lurie came in and asked to hang his campaign poster in the window. Turkish guy said no, Lurie asks why not, guy responds "Because you a crook!"

A lot of bass music lacks a cohesive groove and over-relies on aggression and sound design. On the other end of the spectrum is COPYCATT, whose grooves are unmatched. www.youtube.com/watch?v=sNJN...

As a DJ, my approach to finding new music might seem extreme to some. I keep a list of artist I want to check out and will listen to their discography, start to finish. It can be tedious at times but leads to some neat discoveries and gives a great sense of how artists evolve.

Why is everything framed as a distraction rather than another pointless, stupid, and evil action by this administration. These things all exist on the same plane together. Saying they're trying to distract you implies that they care and are capable of shame, neither of which is true

The Left blamed inflation on corporate price gouging in the aftermath of COVID, not Biden policy. They wanted meaningful debt relief for the middle class in the form of cancelled student debt, Biden only offered to cancel $10k tops, which was a pittance.
